:huzzah: My favorite off of that record. Have you heard the album after that?

P.S. There's actually supposed to be a new one soon. :red:

Yarr, my favorite though is Some Are Lakes. The first record(EP?) is a bit more almostabrasive, but also a lot less clearly produced/mixed. The newer one i thought was almost a bit too much slick and not enough skronk.

This middle one though, i really like how it is done as a record. Bon Iver is kind of whatever for his own music, but IMO, simplifying the layers and sounds for this record is really effective. Love the guitar sound she gets from the SG and some screwball (for rock) chording, and i love how she chooses to navigate melodically over it. I really think that recording it as basically one raw guitar track without effects and one basic vocal track without a bunch of overdub layers to soften/fix it, is 100% the way this band sounds the best to me.

I understand wanting to move on to something bigger/better/slicker on Cloak And Cipher, but as a whole i don't like the sound of it, compared.

Definitely interested in hearing whatever new biz she/they come(s) up with though.

I would peg Some Are Lakes as my fav as well, but I am way into the popness of Cloak And Cipher. First one is kinda funny in how obvious (to me, atleast) how much Fugazi Elizbeth Powell was listening to at the time or atleast beforehand. Definitely shows in the toanz too.

For some reason I cannot get this out of my head. It's so ridiculous. Actually has the words "Viking metal!" in the chorus. There is something about stuff like that which is so unselfconciously and unironically OTT...

These hotass verses are firmly planted in my head. Chorus doesn't quite do what I like. :red: But that primary melody is too good.

I suppose this reverb-drenched earworm will be with me forever:

Nice. :nods: Is this a recently acquired taste?

That's some truly insane falsetto on that track. :tu:

Loves me some old funk/soul/R&B. Just about the least depressing, most life-affirming stuff there is. I say this as a big fan of some really gloomy stuff.

Specifically to this song, yes. I really have very little knowledge of EW&F besides having always heard September (which of course, I love) and the other hits. Though, I would say I have always had a very strong affinity for soulpower-packed pop from that era. Most the big Motown stuff and a lot of doowoop is totally way up my alley, but it is more of a song-to-song basis for me. I can't think of any albums from these kind of bands I have ever locked into. Closest would be like Elton John's Madman Across The Water, but that's sort of a bit of a different story. :red: But I def love cuts from Stevie Wonder, Four Seasons, Darondo, etc.

And fuck yeah, the vocal is insane. I was thoroughly convinced this was a woman guesting on their stuff at first. It is kind of hard to not get into something this grand and powerful. I believe that there is subjective music taste, but I also believe there are things that are universally understandable/potent.

\

This song is really tight and Eric Valentine is really fucking good at recording rock bands.
