NOT HAVING TO HEAR ABOUT THE FUCKING SUPERBOWL ANYMORE. I mean, there is a fair bit of bitching, but good god it is so much worse, continual barrage style, when they win. It is like the shitty sport equivalent of the groundhog day tradition. If the team wins, six more weeks of Superbowl winter. If they lose, it is just a week of depressed bitching followed directly by glorious spring. |

The halftime show disappointment is inescapable, though. I was at dinner with my folks and suddenly, Madonna. We couldn't hear it but it looked pretty stupid. |

I watched none of it. The only sport i give half a shit about these days is basically: hockey. It has a nice combination of speed, violence, skill, and weirdly intelligent players. Plus, my ancestors were French Canadian, so i am not really allowed to dislike it. |

Hockey is directly relephant to my interests... As it determines our rehearsal schedule: my bassist directs traffic outside the arena, and my co-multi-instrumentalist has season tickets. ![]() Last time I was in Toronto, I half-watched a Leafs game while my friend napped before we went clubbing. I felt in touch with my inner Canadian. I don't follow it at all- or anything else for that matter, but it's easy to watch if someone has it on. The pacing of it works well, especially compared to football and baseball. |

I'm going to the superbowl parade tomorrow. Skipping out on class to get my parade on. |

Only sports I watch are car related... usually in some crazy offroad sense. I'm a huge fan of WRC and the redneck in me likes Monster Jam. I also dig BTCC and WTCC. But, fuck football in its handegg. |

Like every Superbowl, the last four minutes were the only bit worth watching. The halftime show was pretty decent I suppose. Now the Puppybowl on the other hand .... |

I love WRC and Touring Cars, though i don't really follow them very much anymore. Also, for some reason i don't really see them as sports, but that is just crazy on my part. I mean they are obviously sports, but they are much closer to individual competition, which i don't necessarily dislike, than to team sports which, i generally can not get into. A good 90% of that is just me being a hermit though. ![]() Anyhow, WRC is so much nicer now that they have gone to smaller cars and engines. The old WRCs sounded like shit, and the computer-controlled diffs and suspensions were getting stupid in those cars. Years before they announced it, i was saying that they should just go to a modified Super 1600 style car, normal aspiration, small engine, small shell, four wheel drive, fucking mechanical diffs only, and no electronic suspension. They didn't go that far back, but the new cars are a definite improvement. I still feel like the new cars allow a little too much grip and electronic safety blanket instead of demanding pure driving ability and the ability to judge changing road surfaces accurately though. Dudes are driving like video game cars a little, the electronics doing a lot of the surface analysis for the drivers. From a person-who-likes-driving-sideways standpoint, i don't like that. But as a spectator, it does make for safer faster corners, and for the kind of videogame slidegrip hilarity, that we all sort of just expect cars on gravel to look like now. |

I also enjoy driving sideways... that's why I own a pickup. But there's been a lot of people killed in WRC, so I understand the electronic safety junk. Personally, I'd rather it be straight up, but there are people's lives on the line. Plus, the ridiculously slidey handling is hella fun to watch. That's why people watch sprint car racing, those things are sideways on the straights.
