This painting hangs in a good friend's apartment. He's been witness to many many good, bad, and crazy times. We call him Pierre Jean Luc although we really wish we could find out who the guy is, if he was real. :dastardly:

Looks crazy familiar but i can't find it in my brainmemory. He seems to have Rubens' justache though. Maybe something flemish/dutch or by someone copying something flemish/dutch.

What is he packing there? A telescope? or is it more like a cane?

It's not Rubens or Vermeer, from looking through their complete catalogs. Nor is it of Rubens; there's a number of portraits of him. (He was a diplomat in addition to being a painter.)

It's in that Old Dutch Master sort of style and the clothing is right for the time period. Who it's of or who it's by, still not sure from a brief investigation.

But the telescope question reminded me of Tycho Brahe, who had a prodigious mustache and a prosthetic nose. And:

I would totally love to walk an Elk around my neighborhood here on Long Island. They are such uptight suburbanites.

Elks by the way are fucking massive. We used to see them a lot when I lived in Colorado. Just fucking huge.

That would be excellent.

Also, the elk in question is a Scandanavian elk. For whatever reason, their elk are our moose. So: even largerer than North American elk. :D

Thanks for the responses all. I posted this on Reddit too, but I'm very new there and just posed it on AskReddit. I'm sure I could get better responses if I put it in the right sub forum, but oh well. Forever Pierre Jean Luc will be lost to history, always following us around the room with those gazing eyes.

I would name my Elk "Moose", just because. Imagine the glare he would give me each time I called him.
