LULZ, IRL.

They would be a total "Greatest Hits Album" band for me.

+1

I'd like to know what percentage of Slayer fans have neck tattoos.

I fucking love Slayer. They are like AC/DC with more speed and less parties, or like Motorhead with more Satan and less Lemmy.

Also, Reign In Blood is an epic bit of violence. Back then there was very little that could compare with the speed and ferocity of what they were doing in that context.

No neck tattoos though. :idk:

Oh yeah, I appreciate them for what they were. They have some classic albums under their belts that a metal head really ought to appreciate. But now, in 2010? Fuck them and their cash grab.

Fucking, whaaat?

Cash grab? They have been playing raw heavy music for fucking ages. The fact that not only are they playing shows still, but that they are still writing completely fired-up pissed-off sounding records, is amazing.

Who the fuck else in metal has maintained the level of energy that they have, for the amount of time that they have?

They have never changed their approach to making angry records. Popular music came to *them*. Were it not for that shift, there would be no cash to grab. They built the empire of Slayer, and IMO, they deserve every cent they make from it.

What the hell is with this attitude amongst metal and underground music nerds that musicians and artists aren't "allowed" to make money off of their creations?

That shit is messed up, yo. :idk:

Naw dawg, I don't see it that way. I know for a fact that at least Lombardo regards the band as a 'job' and he doesn't really give a fuck about the music. I don't hear sincerity when I listen to them... I hear a bunch of aged guys making the music they know people want to hear them make, so they can take it to the bank.

Yeah, then, in that, Lombardo is the same as Derek Roddy. Listen dood, if you want to be a musician full time, it HAS to pay your bills, AND pay for your equipment, AND pay for your health insurance, AND pay for your family if you have one, AND pay for your car, etc etc etc.

If that means that Dave Lombardo has to be playing Reigning Blood well into his old age, then so what? I am sure he is not being paid terribly handsomely for the (IMO) more interesting drumming he has been doing lately in outfits like Fantomas.

Really though, i am sure as hell not going to be jealous that someone is capable of covering all of their expenses just by playing music. Fuck, i would love that. You want a cash grab, go talk to fucking Flo Mounier. Now THAT shit is weak.

Anyhow, i guess a good question for you would be, what do YOU think the doods in Slayer should do right now? :idk:

You have a good point. But aside from comparing the literal similarities with what they do and what the other musicians are doing (and what you and I would like to be doing), in the end a big part of why I feel this is way is simply because of what I feel when I listen to them. The old stuff is good shit, it's 'sincere' as I said. They fully wanted with all their hearts to make outrageous extreme metal. The stuff they continue to release is just so DULL. It's static. It's the same old... I don't feel like it's worth listening to at all. It's just them making money, getting paid, so I DGAF. :idk:
