I was gonna post that, but alas I had to return to Working at the time. Yes, they tore down that gorgeous old building and put the Goddamn Main Place Mall in its place. Which contains a dollar store, a Payless Shoes, a food court, a lot of empty fuckall, and I guess stashed away in the back behind the building is an authentic New York Pizzaria which is apparently quite good if you like New York Pizza. (I'm a Chicago-style girl myself if we're going there. I likes the deep dish.) There isn't even a bookstore or a Radio Shack there anymore last I knew as of some years ago now. In short, somewhere in the general vicinity is a decent pizza place that caters largely to the Downtown @ Lunch crowd. This is what we get in exchange for that lovely old building. In addition to being a barren wasteland whose continued existence is flipping the bird to the notion of functional commercial entities in downtown Buffalo, it's a hideous piece of late '60s-early '70s "architecture". Frankly, government buildings and public schools are more aesthetically pleasing by far. Even the Brutalist freakshow that is the city court building at least looks like an alien monolith (the postmodern skeletal stainless steel sculpture outside helps with the windowless cement WTMF'n'F aesthetic) and is appropriately imposing at least for what it is. |

I love going through NYC and getting absorbed in the architecture there. It just fucking brutal how awesome it is there. So many old buildings, so many gargoyles. I totally want gargoyles on my estate. |
