Sennheiser in ear earbuds. I forgot the model. They sounded fucking brilliant when I first got them in '07. Now they sound... pretty good. :red:

M audio bx5a monitors or a car stereo. I generally like to listen to my mix in a car stereo after Im done with it. Helps me figure out where the mistakes are that need to be corrected. Hopefully it wont be my car stereo though

I really want to get a nice set of monitors for mixing stuff. I just really have no idea what I should be looking for. I guess I could invest in some nice headphones instead ... but, I run into the same problem.

But still, my car stereo is my favorite thing to listen to music through.

I got my bx5a monitors for like 150 brand new. Cables and everything. Just look on CL. People are selling at good prices.

The Hobotown listening setup is as follows:

1. Logitech 5.1 speakers with a sub in the corner, and the rear speaks disconnected.
2. Aiwa oddly flat response boombox speakers that i have to use when i use the firewire interface.
3. Sony MDR-V6 that are pretty great headphones.
4. Sennheiser HD-201s that are lightweight, seal outside sound really well, and work very well for tracking use.

Whatever earbuds are around.
I blow them all the time (I listen incredibly loud) and am going through them all the time.
I should probably invest in some nice, bulletproof ones one of these days.

Cheap earbuds are easy to destroy. Get some Etymotics. Your ears will thank you.

Duly noted!
I have been looking for some high quality earbuds for a long time.
The sound quality with them versus headphones is obviously fairly large (though I know quality earbuds exist).
I just have never owned any.

Good earbuds are a revelation. I have the Etymotic e6is, the other guitarist in my band just got the Etymotic MC5s (kick out the jams, motherfucker :red: ) and...

They sound like good headphones. Largely because they, well, are. Expect to pay roughly the same for good earbuds as you would for good headphones. The difference in sound between cheap and good earbuds is massive. Also, the Etymotics have massive isolation; I think mine are like 32db. No outside noise worth mentioning; loud and clean. You may actually wind up listening quieter than you initially think because of the isolation... though good 'phones, well, you can hurt yourself with 'em as you'll probably overdrive your playback system before they'll break up. Certainly with a laptop or iPod you will.

About a hundred bucks for HD280Pros. IMO, can't go wrong. But my mixes sound like ballsack, so what do I know? :red:

There's lots of good 'phones in that vague general price range. If you prefer Grado or AKG or Sony, for example, then...

They are a worthy investment. Like everything else, though, learn how they sound with whatever you use as reference material first before mixing.

Either a set of Kenwood JL-881s (big 12" floor speakers) or my Yamaha HSM80s that I recently acquired.

Or the Polk DB system in the car.

1. laptop speakers :( purely out of convenience, not because they sound good.
2. Grado SR80s.
3. Creative t20 pc speakers.

I'm gonna get some hifi speakers or monitors soon I reckon, since the creatives are terrible and have a really fake sound.
