They're not. I've used one before. If I were really jonesing for a tuner for live work, 's what I'd get. They're actually quite efficient and very quick.

At first glance it does look like a strobe tuner or some equally baffling crazy shit. But: Each of those pairs of LEDs there, when it's in Poly mode, represents a string. So: you're seeing the whole guitar at once. Which strings are out, in what direction, and by roughly how much. And yeah, it'll do drop D and downtuning in Poly mode, too. And you can still use it like a normal one-string-at-a-time tuner. There's no mode switch either if you just want to tune one string at a time; it knows.

So yeah, it's pretty cool. I thought it was a gimmick until I tried one. It seems ideal for live work. (No wonder joey has one- I think he gigs more than the rest of us combined!)

yes it is super easy to use. I pretty much use it only in single mode, but have use it in poly between songs real quick.

Gigging, yeah I do gig a lot, it has proven to be my tuna of choice. Sorry Charlie.

I'm around 65-80 gigs this year so far.
