I know at least Geoff is with me on this one; classic videos games have some of my favorite compositions, especially when Nobuo Uematsu is/was involved.

For example, I could listen to this song on loop indefinitely as I struggled against a particularly tough boss in Final Fantasy VI:

Or this one as I worked my way through the Phantom Forest to ultimately suplex a ghost-train (you fucking heard me):

Or this one as I wandered the open world:

Or this one as the story of two brothers' fates plays out before me:

Or this one as I follow a man who seeks justice for the murder of his family, king and countrymen:

And that is just from one game, and a tiny sample of some of the beautiful songs one man wrote.

Or how about the amazing and sometimes crazy soundtrack from Earthbound, co-composed by Hirokazu Tanaka and Keiichi Suzuki?

Nothing like starting a new game to this:

Or fighting an epic battle against otherworldly opponents to:

Or wandering around Onett to:

Or cautiously wandering the zombie-infested town of Theed:

And I still hum the Twoson theme from time to time:

Anyone else got some favorite video game music, classic or modern? How about remixes/covers?

Absolutely.

There were less bells and whistles back then. With what they had to work with, the only option was to make fucking awesome songs.

Yes, Yasunori Mitsuda was great and my man Nobuo Uematsu contributed a bit to the Chrono Trigger sound track.

The Battle with Magus music was epic:

And nothing screams "Noble Warrior" like Frog/Glenn's Theme:

OH and Final Fantasy Tactics may have some of the most epic sounding songs ever in a game:

Well if he said covers and remixes go ahead. It's his thread. :red:

Hey, I have a couple, which I've probably showed you all already...

Must have recorded those in 2008.

Forgot about this one, which reminds me of Brian Wilson's 60's instrumental music.

From one of my favorites:

This one always reminded me of one of the mellower moments off TSOM's Floodland, or Peter Gabriel. Mellow ambient, which set an odd mood:

Quote:
Reading the terminal that explains how Mars fell into poverty after the construction of the CRISTs, and the last ditch effort to convert Deimos into the Marathon, with THIS music playing in the background... I can just see a Martian standing in red, dusty streets, trash flying in the wind, huddled up against the cold, wrapped in blankets, staring up at the misshapen moon as unimaginably giant pieces of machinery are slowly fused to it, and his heart begins to sink...

Really powerful image...

There is apparently a game based off of Arthur C Clarke's 'Rama', and the soundtrack is cool as fuck.

Thread has excellent replay value.

So I managed to find the music for Rama... in thrilling 96 kbps. Why do people do this. :poop:

Because God hates you. :krampus: And digital aliasing is the equivalent of hot :dildo: :D action, or something. :red:

Seriously, kids- hard drive space ain't shit these days. If you won't do lossless, at least do 320. I don't even want VBR. 128k, fuck that, I actually quite honestly prefer the sonics of cassette. At least that fucks up the audio in an appealing way. You'll do Blu-Ray or whatever, right? Give the sound the same respect, will you? Bad encoding isn't even mediocre sound, it's actual lo-fi. Anyone my age should know better, and any 20-year-old or so should be made to realize their grandparents probably had a better system in the '70s.

Fuck, my grandmother is 93. She has a big ol' tube radio- thing is like five feet tall- that might be pre-WWII, I forget. Roughly that vintage. It is goddamn old. Mono, 15" driver, no crossover, no tweeter, nothing. My one uncle, an electrician, restored it to working condition- recapped, etc. though there's some oooold tubes in there, some years back. That thing sounds good. Phat bass, too. Sounds way the fuck better than most things I hear these days, and this is what this ancient old Polish lady was listening to opera and jazz on when :hitler: was menacing the Sudetenland.
