Recommend me a good guitar rawk record or two.
Of the not prog or metal flavor. Abrasive and/or heavy is acceptable, but if metalfolk would call it metal, it probably is. Preferably something post-2000, but if I missed it in the '90s and should be aware of it now, I can deal with that. I need to stuff riffs into my earholes.

On the self titled record they modernised just a bit, it's awesome. Toan is more ripping (I think he switched to the then new 5150s), new singer is more badass, etc. They've always had awesome riffing but this one is exceptional, IMO.
Re: Recommend me a good guitar rawk record or two.
Dunno if you have heard these dudes?
Or these dudes? This one might be more metal than you were looking for, but it certainly falls under the category of riff-based goodness.
And I think I recall you liking Mastodon, but have you checked this one out?
And if you do not have Songs For The Deaf by Queens of Stone Age, you are doing yourself a serious disservice. I consider that whole thing to be a hard rock masterpiece, fo sho. The evilblues vibe and radio station gag that rolls throughout the whole thing is fantastic.
Two cuts from that I particularly love:

*nods in approval*
Geoff, the Loudness track surprised me. I actually got a bit of an old Pantera vibe for a bit there in some of the riffing. I could see that tone being a 5150 III, yeah, or a Splawn or something of that nature. Rhythm section grooves a bit- I see this overall as a common theme re: stuff that was posted. Not really familiar with them, so I didn't know what to expect. I know they're Japanese, and were around in the '80s, and that's about it!
Chris- I snagged that Unsane record. That qualifies as guitar rawk- solos aren't necessary. If it involves big loud guitars hammering away, it counts. Anyhoo, I'm really digging this so far. On a purely guitar-flavored level, interesting that it sounds like there's more dirt on the bass- and what a hell of a sound that is!- than the guitars. This will fit with the collection of uglyrock nicely. I remember you mentioning this one in the past.
Cam- The Whores track reminds me of a murky, more punky Rage Against The Machine a bit. 'S got a fine groove to it. Re: The Abominable Iron Sloth, the name and song title alone win. Definitely on the metallic side, but will investigate further. The Mastodon record, I have and listened to quite a bit when it came out. The QOTSA record I have as well. To which I'll shoot one back at you, if you dig that, have you heard the Them Crooked Vultures record? Josh Homme, John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl. You may appreciate it.

Oh, but that's an original 5150. That album came out in like 1992 or something. Pretty much their first step away from eighties glam stuff, right there.
Now I know you've heard this one enough, so I'm just reminding you of it and its riffing and shit:
Re: Recommend me a good guitar rawk record or two.
I discovered these guys a bit back. Some really good guitar-driven rawk, no metals or anything of that nature. Guitar, Keys and Drums yet they have a huge sound. You can get their whole album for free (or name your own price) and it full of fantastic riffage. The guy also plays some pretty interesting riffs on top of singing, which is pretty impressive.

Definitely check out Fuzz' self titled, it's another of Ty Segall's projects and it's good stuff. Also, his self titled album Slaughterhouse is worth a listen.

Ty Segall is a lot of fun. I was listening to the stuff he did with White Fence not too long ago. Speaking of which, Tom, what do you think of White Fence? It seems a bit less riffy/rock, and a little more 60s throwback crossed with maybe something more shoegazey, which i am into, but do you diggit?

Pretty much every stage of the band has been fantastic guitar rock, just varying flavors of it.

Oh shityeah, I dig the hell out of Clutch. Extra points for the properly bizarre lyrics, too. Whoever thought this was a good idea for a band got a lot of things really right.

Chris, I haven't heard of White Fence but I'll give them a listen.
I didn't mention Clutch because I thought that kinda went without saying when talking about rock rekkids If you haven't heard Earth Rocker yet it's definitely worth a listen. It was my favourite album of 2013 until Protest The Hero - Volition came out. And Blast Tyrant may be their finest work, if you didn't already have that one. This older Clutch song also brings the thunder.

I recommend Hysterics by Rolo Tomassi and Castle Talk by Screaming Females. Angry female vocals and ripping guitars. Marissa Paternoster of Scream Females is my pick for the best current guitarist.

Hmm, Rolo Tomassi has some things going on, yes. The name sounds familiar to me, but looking at the youf of the foalks in the wideo, it must not be the same band. I will have to listen to the rest of this one i tink.
