You know this, but to further reinforce the points, I like:
Adventurous song structures that don't sit in one place for too long, usually Busy arrangements, harmonically and melodically atypical sorts of stuff Poppy, catchy things mixed with harsh and unusual stuff Odd time sig stuff
HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT. FIRE AWAY.

Wow, No Comment rips.
They are a classic band for this style. And that is one of those EPs that started a bunch of people's brains going to make similar sounds, start similar bands. Another ship-launcher.

On the subject of quickish bands, here's another one from (a little later in) my youf:
Had their record on the vinyl that was shaped like a buzzsaw blade. Classy.

Ah, interesting, i always wondered what it would sound like without the weird EQ/mix on the... everything:
That Helmet stuff is really fun, I'm actually diggin' it. Also, Left For Dead is v tight, as well.
Can you think of any really whacky post-punk/hardcore stuff that is all over the place with dissonance, time sigs, silly melodies and weird (probably Guy Picciotto-esque) vocals? I really want to find stuff that is similar to the sort of punk that I write/is my favorite. Whatever Brains used to be really into the sort of sound I am talking about, and Fugazi as well obviously. Sort of like Refused-ish, except I don't really like that record as much as everyone else seems to. Or really, like it much at all. I have yet to hear a bunch of other bands do the sound I am talking about with the skill that the other bands I mentioned.

These dudes were always a good time:
(though they don't seem to have the record i liked the most up)
(and this one is pretty odd, all songs suggested by fans)

Think i still have this one around here somewhere:
Harriet The Spy was the much less weird of the two sides, but i liked them too.
This doesn't seem to be that great of a vinyl rip unfortunately:
