...Critters. I was just locked into a bit of a wiki rabbithole that lead to quite a bit of reading about electric eels(which are fucking amazing) and stumbled across this one: ![]() Which is a Black Ghost Knifefish. Which strikes me as a pretty sweet name for a fishthing. In fact, technically, an electric eel is actually not a true eel but rather another type of Knifefish, and it strikes me that with such an alternative it is kind of silly to call the things otherwise...? Anyhoo, in this thread, please poast wonderfully named critters thusly.

YES! All fine contributions. I musty say, there is something a bit more more extra plus with the whole black ghost knife fish thing, like they let middle school boys name it or something. I like that angle. I also like the ones where the name doesn't quite all the way match too well, ala Strange Tailed Tyrant: ![]() Which is i guess maybe half right, but it is hard to see the second half applying to what just looks a bit like a sad off-color sparrow.

I also just generally approve of the pure consistency of Australian goofy names for things, ala Tasseled Wobbegong:

As an aside, i also enjoy how almost any image search for anything will generally result in something of this nature popping up in the list for some reason or other:

Least Weasel is understatedly fantastic. I don't know about letting a person just name a thing after themselves though. I feel like they could/should do that a bit more tactfully. Unless of course, the critters are named for other people, that the namers don't like, in which case, it is 100% correct to do this way. Or, of course, if the dude/dudette in question is fucking named Grewcock or something. |
