Alright, fuckers. Not necessarily 5-10 records that were made recently but records you've recently been very fond of. Let's say the last half decade or so. Maybe a little description, who knows.

Prefab Sprout - Swoon/Steve McQueen

Cheating here sort of, two records but they were recorded back to back and divided from the same batch of songs as I understand. Been obsessed with this band since about the beginning of lockdown, super brainy/clever 80's new wave-ish heavenly pop music. Maybe more tin pan alley and jazz tinged than actual new wave but you get the idea. I always kind of think of it as being akin to Steely Dan in how seemingly academic and perfectly executed it is, perfectly crafted pop music played by nearly virtuostic musicians. That said, I like this a whole lot more than Steely Dan. Swoon is kind of the brooding, cynical batch of songs and Steve McQueen is much more earnest, polished and pleasant. Curious if Snaxie ever heard this one, imagine it would have been extremely up her alley for a lot of cuts.

Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted

Kind of late to really showing up for this band, always been a peripheral admirer but never really dug in hard until about a year ago. Don't need to elaborate much here but yeah, shit rocks hard. One of those things that took a bit of time for the personality/angle to really click for me. Now I, like many other annoying men, think that Steve Malkmus is a genius.

Frog - Count Bateman

Kind of freak folk lo fi type shit, bedroom pop or what have you. A lot more influenced by 60's and 70's songwriters than the typical contemporary fair. Good deal of The Band/Dylan style americana flavors and the occasional Animal Collective-esque acoustic freakout thing. Killer songwriting front to back, dude's voice is all small and weird and fucked up and awesome.

Gotta get back to work, will continue rambling with more before long.

Ok I’ll play along as the old guy.

The Cure- Songs of a Lost World , for guys that hadn’t put an album out in so many years this one just slayed it. There’s a live concert on YT that they play the entire album then all there usual stuff. Great watch. Not a bad song on the album.

BlackBerry Smoke - Be Right Here, last couple of years I got into some southern rock and country stuff so I’ll got with this one as one. Charlie Starr is just great frontman guitar player. Simple songs good hooks and they jam. I’ve seen then 4 times in the last 3 years there stage levels are great. Three guitar, keys, bass drums and backup singers and you can hear it all. Oh, and they use real amps. I prefer the album Whipporwhill but this one has a few nice ones.

Imma come back for the third.
