I have a Dilemma! ADVISE ME BRETHREN!
So, i have this awesome Dell 2408WFP A02 24" LCD PVA flatscreen monitor. Bad news is, the powersupply is blown, and i NEED a fucking monitor so fucking bad in the meantime while i wait for parts to arrive in the mail.
SO that brings me to a series of questions.
1. Should i get another 24? or should i leave room to downgrade size? 24's and up are in a class of their own, and the big price gap starts at 24.
2. Should i consider a different aspect ratio? Currently my ar is 16:10, yielding a resolution of 1920x1200. Problem with this is that this is a very rare resolution these days, as most monitors gravitate to 16:9, or 1920x1080, also known as "1080p" yes indeed, my monitor is currently superior to what people would have you believe to be "high definition". So should i step down to an inferior res?
3. Should i consider a 3-d enabled monitor? The biggest one is 23", and they only go to 1920x1080 - 2 downgrades. As well as this, they use TN technology, which is greatly inferior to my PVA tech monitor, in that my monitor doesnt change colour when you walk around it, but TN panels do - like a shitty laptop, and therefore also have bad colours, and bad blacks... everything you associate with a bad laptop screen. ALso, with a large screen 23 inches, the angles matter quite a bit, because your corners get ugly and dark. FUCK. However, on the upside, 3d TN monitors are VERY responsive and allow for quicker reactions in gaming, which i like, very fluid due to the higher refresh rate, and in the future i can buy some 3-d goggles and fucking PLAY FUCKIN 3D FUCKING BATTLEFIELD FUCKIN BITCHES UP WITH MY TANK.
But i digress. I cannot for the life of me figure out the path i wish to take. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUu

I think 1+2 depend on what you are willing to spend. I say keep a higher resolution over a larger screen though, if that helps.
As far as 3, I would let that that technology develop a bit more. By the time you want to upgrade monitors again, 3d will be better and cheaper anyway.

I really liked having 1920x1200 to work with. I have zero interest in 3d video shizz, so that would be an easy "no" choice for me. The only way i would go to a smaller monitor than 24", is if i was going to double it up and run a dual monitor setup. I think that if i were you, i would probably look into getting roughly what you had before. It is a pretty good size and resolution, IMO.

Werd. My current thought process has 2 related, but differnt goals in mind. In the end, do i want 3xfantastic monitors, 24" each, for a large NV surround setup? (will require another graphics card, but thats not a problem with my case Or do i want 3x23" 3d monitors, for NV 3d-surround? And game into the 30th century? I already have a stupidly powerful nvidia card which enables 3d (ati dun do 3d). And if i double it up, it will be even more stupidly powerful.

I think the 3d craze is a fucking gimmick. You can therefore tell what my answer is.

well you probably dont have a computer that can handle it as fantastically as mine. Nor have tried it on a computer as fantastic as mine. Hm. Anyway yeah, got me a lg2453, not 3d. The 3d LG isnt out, and im impatient. But this is quite a nice lookin gamin screen.

Do you actually notice the extra 120 horizontal pixels? I would guess not, but I've never used 1920x1200.

vertical pixels. And yes, you do. Like, i noticed a HUGE difference, in both looks and performance of battlefield... battlefield now runs just a tiny bit smoother, and the AA looks better on the curves. Oh and for a more practical difference, 1920x1200 fits two 8x11 pieces of paper perfectly side by side, while 1920x1080 cuts off the bottom of them
