And some of yesterday...

This is one of several slabs of a pine tree that was struck by lightning a couple years back at my grandmother's place in New Hampshire. I just rough cut three or four slabs out of a section of the trunk with a chainsaw. Without a proper power planer here, i have been putting off doing anything with the slabs for quite a while.

Well, i got tired of waiting and i wanted to build something, so i decided to do it up with a regular old hand plane. My hands are mostly blisters at the moment. :red:

As the slab was just slightly too small to do as a one piece i had to add some bits to the body to make it wide enough. As such, i am probably going to paint it a solid color, though my original intent was to go either natural or butterscotch. Whatever color it winds up will depend on what i have around the basement, as i am too broke to buy anything for this build. :red:

Still don't know what i am going to use for hardware and whatnot. Might cannibalize some other guitar for bits.

There are all kinds of gnarly knots and bug tunnels all over, so i expect it to be pretty punkrock-looking once i am done. :huzzah:

Tele parts you say?

I may have a couple of things laying about, at least a couple of knobs I know.

Also that guitar is pure man.

Burlycaster.

Lumbercaster.

:plot:

You don't say...

Yeah, really, i don't have the parts to build a guitar right now, i just felt very much that i wanted to do so anyhow. I *think* i have pickups, a random chinese neck with no tuners that may or may not be straight enough to use, that lo-fi gfs three saddle bridge(which i don't like), the pickguard, and probably the pots... But other than that, i am missing a bunch of things. :red:

I am probably going to cut a control plate out of some bar stock i have(like the aluminum one in the pictar there, but steel instead), but i don't know if i have a neck plate or tuners or knobs or if the pickups i have even work... At this stage, i am just pressing on regardless. I figure i will figure something out once it is routed and painted and all that shizz.

Yeah, it is pretty awesome, actually: After i cut the wood, i took the two biggest slabs and put them in the corners of the huge fireplace that is up there. I ran a pretty solid blaze for a couple of days and just moved them periodically so that they would dry out some at an accelerated rate. Well they also scorched a bit, as you can see in the dark spots in the picture with the pickguard. So after planing and sanding it for a couple of days everything smells like an awesome bonfire. The guitar is like lumberjack smell-o-vision.

Haha.

I am also getting ready to do some mods on mah tele, so I should have a spare set of pups, amongst other things. I am getting it a new bridge, unfortunately it has a wilki three-saddle brass on it right now so I doubt that would help.

Is the bridge a compensated saddle one? That is my main beef with this GFS. It sounds fine, but the intonation drives me batty. :wall:

Let me know what you have as far as bits you don't need, and i will see what i can do about acquiring them from you. I definitely need some tele knobs, for instance, fo sho. :isay:

Otherwise, i am probably going to do something ghetto trying to make my own workalike for them.

If i am happy enough with the results of this experiment, i think you will like the one i have planned next(here situated next to the planed-but-not-yet-shaped-in-this-photo tele):

How is that for guitar bodies?

For what i do, it is awesome. Very lightweight, has a nice odd mids content to it, and sounds nice through a bright voxy map.

A little weird for high gain stuff, but not neccesarily in a bad way... Actually, this was done with the first pinecaster experiment i did: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... ID=6842193

Which is this guitar:

Though at the time of that recording, i think i had a Dimarzio Norton fullsize HB in the bridge... I don't really remember. :red:

It's compensated, so you may be down.

Yeah, i dug that one. I think it was billed as the HCAF Doom Drum Jam or something? I don't even remember who did it, either Todge or Exafro though i think...
