Re: What i have been doing today...
I WANT THAT GODDAMN TELE SO BAD. The copperfoil idea is a good one. If I didn't like the ash pattern on my current tele, I would consider doing it to that. But a copperfoiled thinline sounds like a great idea.

Re: What i have been doing today...
I almost built an aluminum strat for my high school senior mastery project. Then I found out how much it would cost to get the aluminum, have it machined, etc.

Yeah, but if they are done right, they sound amazing. These Electrical Guitar ones average between about $2200 and $2500, IIRC. They do all kinds of shapes too, like for instance: They also do aluminum necked/wooden bodies ones: I like their standard model also: Basically, they fucking rule.

I saw those at the other place.
They are really fucking interesting, but there is no way in hell I could drop that much cash without playing around with one for a while.

It is like fucking teenage mutant ninja turtles and shit: Kind of stuck with it, due to its stainyness. Unless i want to paint over it. Motherfuck.

Re: What i have been doing today...
Thing is, i really don't want another green guitar. Actually, my plan for this one was to go either yellowed natural or blonde-ish. It was searching for a yellow tint that got me screwed into the green actually. The first tint was wayyy clown yellow, so i added a little purplish blue to it. It looked okay, in the cup, and tested okay on a scrap, but over the yellow, it went "pressure treated lumber" green. But no, i don't want this guitar to be dark green. So i went hunting around the basement to see if there was anything else i could use, and i found one sketchy ancient can of paint that looked as promising as it looked dangerous. So of course i immediately started painting the body with it. The can is wayyy fucked up though, and hardly sprays right, even though i don't think it has ever been used before(due to the fact that i don't now what the fuck other than a guitar someone would paint this color: The color is actually called "Almond", and i don't know who bought it, when, or for what. But i think i might be able to make the turtle guitar into a normal-ish blonde with it, if i can get the damn can to stop sputtering. I don't mind if the green stain shows a little bit even, as long as it is mostly blonde-ish. I am sad that i have to cover up all of the knots and screwy dents and tunnels in the thing, but like i said, i really do not want another dark green guitar.

Re: What i have been doing today...
The whole neck is aluminum, except for the frets. I don't know if Electrical does hollow necks or solid ones. They may actually do both.

Re: What i have been doing today...
aluminum is for pussies. Titanium is how I roll.
Solid gold would bring the bling.

Re: What i have been doing today...
I have decided on a direction for this. Many years ago, i "refinished" a cheep strat copy and gave it to a friend of mine. I did it extremely lo-fi, and topped it off by making a fender-esque transparency decal that said "Ghettocaster". In a way, Pinecaster I was also Ghettocaster II. This guitar will be Pinecaster II, and Ghettocaster III. Alternately "BustedBrokeCaster". Sooooo. I need a neck plate. I have four neck bolts, but no plate. How? I don't know. i need to buy a plate. In the meantime however, due to my brokeness and impatience, i need another solution. Enter this bit of sketch: Bonus points for those who can ascertain its previous life. I only hope that it will be stable enough for the task. Whatever, a temporary solution, anyhow. Also, now that the body is creme-colored, i figure it should have a black pickguard. It is only proper. Well, i have a black pickguard, but it has a hole in it for a tele neck pickup, so that is right out. Besides, as mentioned, it would be slightly wrongshaped for this guitar. So, digging through my basement led to this: Now, as there aren't really any clues as to where such a piece of powdercoated sheetmetal might have originated, i will just say straight up, that i cut it out of the top of a broken VCR with a pair of tinsnips. It is pretty difficult to work with, not quite thin enough to cut nicely, not quite thick enough to clamp down and shape with a saw or file. It is okay, this project will be all about the rough finish. Which brings me back to the matter of the body... The spray paint that i used was super fucked up, doing all kinds of weird shit, not spraying right, and making drips and runs like crazy. So i said fuck it. If it wants to be that way, then fine. Two can play that game. I didn't wait for it to dry all the way(like maybe 12 hours instead of the minimum 24 they advise) and i hit it with a can of nitro laquer that i got years ago from stew mac and never used. Unsurprisingly, terrible things happened. Terrible, awesome things: I am just going to continue to recoat until i am out of lacquer, which won't take long, maybe three coats. And then, i am just going to call it done.
