Mazzy Star. Cowboy Junkies. Cocteau Twins. Devics. Violet Indiana. Emiliana Torrini. Curve. Sigur Ros. Basically, the other stuff I was listening to when I wandered from the corpse-strewn fields of industrial, prog-rock and, thrash and death metal into singer-songwriter dreamland. Et tu? |

...because everything else I've been listening to lately sounds like it's cramming an angle grinder up your earholes, puny humans. Gotta balance it out with something? |

I kind of listen with a wide shotgun pattern spread most of the time anyhow. Really all over the place, i have some sort of musical ADD, i think. However, there are some things that i haven't heard in a long ass time, mainly because i lost them in the harddrive crash a couple years back, and haven't ripped them onto this new computer yet. Most of the Brian Jonestown Massacre stuff Nick Drake The two or three David Bowie records i like Misfits Ween Wedding Present All of the old Boston Hardcore stuff: Slapshot, Gang Green, SSD, DYS, etc. Sugar/Husker Du MELVINS Deicide Cannibal Corpse Most of the Grandaddy records All of my old ska stuff Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks Most of the jazz stuff i like I have just been trying to resist the urge to rip everything back on until i have a really huge drive that i can use for music storage in my external dock. I don't want to rip myself out of HDD space on the laptop, though i have slowly kind of been doing that on one of my drives.

Dreampop, prettygirlvoices, reverb, that sorta thing, all three. Violet Indiana is Robin Guthrie's band with the singer from Mono. (Cue Geoff in 5, 4, 3... on the Mono reference.)This also makes me want to put Bleed Your Cedar back on my iPod. Oh, also cool shit I was listening to a lot around then- Lacrimas Profundere, the one Celestial Season record before they went all stoner rock, Green Carnation, Lake Of Tears... DOOM THUD, as it were. That was mostly my ex's doing, born of a mutual fandom of My Dying Bride. |

There's another one I'm forgetting, they had really cheesy drum machine sounds and their fanbase seemed to be Ren-Faire-type goth girls, at least the people I know who like them in real life, but I remember their songs were actually pretty good- again along the same lines, floatysopranoreverb- and I'm totally spacing the name. And have, I think, several albums worth on a G3 iBook that no longer turns on, along with a bunch of industrial stuff and probably the complete discographies of Ani Difranco and Tom Waits up through around 2005? Also, it strikes me I haven't really listened to Opeth in A Good Long While, and there was a time when they were probably my favorite band, The Sisters Of Mercy excepted, whom I've also not listened to save for to re-learn some cover songs or heard out at clubs in a fair bit, but I've also had their entire discography memorized start-to-finish since, I think, my sophomore year in high school. Also, I played every song off Vision Thing* goofing around with my drummer a couple weeks ago, so I think I still have a handle on that one. *I transcribed the whole thing by ear one night. I was playing a red Squier Strat through a Zoom 505, if that's any indication on how long ago this was. I was also possibly really high on speed at the time. Ribbons is still the best song they ever did (that riff crushes everything.) and one of the guitar parts in When You Don't See Me totally nicks from Rainbow In The Dark.

Also, because I am a total TSOM fanboi, I at one point was very seriously considering- since they refuse to release a new studio record and have an album's worth of material they play live- recording cover versions myself and posting it up on their forum. And as an aside, back in the days of Olde Maps I recorded a thrashed-out tuned down to C# version of Alice, complete with vocals. I don't think I ever posted it or sent it to anyone, except maybe V. Thinking about it makes me miss my old house, with the huge fucked-up shaped great sounding rooms and downstairs stoner people who didn't care how loud I played. If I have the money and the med student girl and her roommate who have it now move out next year, I kinda want it back. |

I should probably get back to listening to Queens Of The Stone Age. However, I have beaten that album to death so bad (over 120 plays according to my iTunes) that's it's just not the same as it was. ![]() Also, I should look for more Thin Lizzy that I haven't listened to. I have kinda strayed from Lizzy for Yes. |

I'm not so sure about that one. I mean, c'mon, who do you think would serve up the better boning? Exhibit A: ![]() Exhibit B: ![]() Now, I'm hardly groupie material, but were I trying to get some hot rockstar action and I absolutely had to choose... |

Phil probably gives a mean mustache ride. I'd imagine his chin could cause discomfort though. |

A man of his caliber would have hired someone to polish his P, you would think ... |

Maybe, but he might be able to get someone to work on his P for free. Cam would have. |
