http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantis_shrimp

Quote:
They may reach 30 centimetres (12 in) in length, although exceptional cases of up to 38 cm (15 in) have been recorded.

Quote:
...mantis shrimp sport powerful claws that they use to attack and kill prey by spearing, stunning or dismemberment. Although it happens rarely, some larger species of mantis shrimp are capable of breaking through aquarium glass with a single strike from this weapon.

Quote:
Because they strike so rapidly, they generate cavitation bubbles between the appendage and the striking surface.[7] The collapse of these cavitation bubbles produces measurable forces on their prey in addition to the instantaneous forces of 1,500 newtons that are caused by the impact of the appendage against the striking surface, which means that the prey is hit twice by a single strike; first by the claw and then by the collapsing cavitation bubbles that immediately follow.[10] Even if the initial strike misses the prey, the resulting shock wave can be enough to kill or stun the prey.

The snap can also produce sonoluminescence from the collapsing bubble. This will produce a very small amount of light and high temperatures in the range of several thousand kelvins within the collapsing bubble, although both the light and high temperatures are too weak and short-lived to be detected without advanced scientific equipment. The light emission and temperature increase probably have no biological significance but are rather side-effects of the rapid snapping motion. Pistol shrimp produce this effect in a very similar manner.

Make sure you read the part about their eyes.

I feel like these would mike fine candidates for an aquatic genetically altered killing beast.

They have infravision and ultravision. On this basis alone they would make a fine genetically altered killing beast. Do we have to do much more than make them really fucking big?

Also, Vol wants her outfit back from this damn thing.

I might have to object to these as alter killing beasts. I look at them and just think our enemies would devour them with some butter.

Talk me out of this.

We could make them unsteamable somehow? :idk:

Though, i admit, as badass as they are, i kind of want to devour them with some butter myself... :red:

IMO, Pinchy Fishes (i.e delishus lobstars!) are the finest eatin' fishes available.

Have you watched the videos? HAVE YOU? :panic:

If we were to biggerize them, they'd surely pulverize/slice our enemies. :monocle:

Lobster is indeed fine grub.
All crustaceans are taste.

But. What if our enemies just boiled the oceans up?

Yes, I love me some lobster. And crabs. And skrimps. Etc.

BUT HIS CLAWS ARE SO FAST THEY CREATE SONIC BOOMS AND FLASHES OF LIGHT.

If he could smash his way out of an aquarium, a big one could smash his way into a bank vault. :mwahaha:

They are extremely graceful in the water too.

It is scary imagining what human-sized ones would be capable of.

I consider them more a Big Bug That Lives In The Sea than a fish, myself.

:idk: I don't eat bugs.

Pretty much anything edible and waterbourne, i consider some sort of fish. My taxonomic system is... different than most.
