Pretty interesting little videos, Monstrosity and Suffocation chillin' in an apartment or whatever, Scott Burns of Morrissound shows up and chills, they talk about Atheist and Pestilence and whatnot.
Corpsegrinder drunkenly narrates the whole time.

It was kind of a church group sort of thing, but with much less emphasis on the religious and much more on the helpful aspects.

Basically, through a long history of US-backed, government-fueled violence there are a lot of fucking widows and orphans in the mountains of Guatemala. How they came to be, is a long story. At the time i actually didn't know that much about it, as the basic USA/Guatemalan "cover story" is severely lacking in accuracy. So what we were told as basically kids and workers, was not really what the case was.

In any case, we traveled about nine hours away from Guatemala City by bus(gnerly things with Caterpillar motors in them for climbing the mountains) then about nine hours UP into the real boonies. The houses we built were real basic, as that is roughly what the state of affairs up there was. Smallish, dirt floors, simple wooden walls, corrugated steel roofing.

The jungle was fucking SWEET. The mountains were so fucking huge and awesome, i could barely take it all in. I have kind of wished i could go back, ever since i learned more about the real history, and therefore what we were really doing there, and who the people we were building things for really were, in a historical context. There was all kinds of crazy shit that i figured out in retrospect, that really would have changed my perception a lot if i knew it when i was there.

Unfortunately, as a country, there is so much political instability, that they didn't really do too many more trips to there after that, and actually not many people do, even today. I guess i should just count myself lucky for being able to do it in that small window where it was safe enough to take a bunch of kids up there. And really, that is pretty much what i try to retain mostly from it all. It was also cool because i got to do the trip with like all of my best friends at the time, and a couple of their parents. It was a really good time. Not in a party-down-summer-cruise sort of way. But in a hard-work-in-a-more-dangerous-than-it-looks-place-with-people-who-you-like-a-lot sort of way.

It was... doap.
