OH. Also, it is IMO, kind of important that you listen to any dance/electronic sorts of stuff with as much bass in you system as possible, ideally a crossover/sub sort of setup. There is generally a lot of sub bass content that can go easily missed on a lot of systems/speakers. You don't need anything amazing, just something that has the low lows to it.

A lot of this stuff, i don't know if i would have gotten into it, if i hadn't first heard it an crazy bass-heavy systems. Especially the Breakbeat Era stuff. There is some bassline shit on there, totally separate from the "normal" bass lines, that is completely only there to make a trunk full of 15s lose its shit.

I really want a sub. Is there a way to hook one up if I'm using Mackie MR5 monitors, being fed by the RCA outputs of my Edirol interface?? It also has 1/4" outputs if that's any use. Maybe plug the outputs into some kind of crossover thing before going out to the (powered) speakers?

Hmm. I don't know. A lot of times a powered sub will have some form of crossover built innit. But i don't know what the hookup would be for two separate speakers with one sub. Either the sub would have to take a stereo input and out put two mono plugs for the MR5s, or you would have to run the sub off of only either the left or right channel, or you would need two subs: one for each MR5, or you would need to send a dedicated L/R summed signal that only fed the one sub, separate from the MR5's left and right signals.

I don't remember which Edirol you have, but if it has more than one pair of simultaneous speaker outputs, you might be able to use one to send to a sub?

Like, if i wasn't usiong this Logitech sub/speaker dealie, i would probably run a single sub off either my mixer's 'control room/headphone', 'two track', or 'main out' outputs, depending on what my connector situation was for the sub and whatever monitors i was using.

Probably you would want the ability to easily remove the sub from the system for mixing and whatnot. So using some third output, separate from your main monitor feed, might be a good idea. On my mixer, i can just hit one of three buttons and it will shut down the signal to any/either of my available outputs.

I don't know what the "right" way to do it is though, for a proper studio sort of setup. I am, after all, a simple hobo.

Droid is good, for sure, but IMO, for it to really have the full effect, one should be familiar with what it is the live version OF, first.

IMO, that stuff is all less badass, IF you remove it from what came before it.

i.e. If you are familiar with the original musicks, then you can hear all of the crazy stuff that is going on in like the drums, to mimic breakbeat cuts and sampler glitches and all that shit. It makes the fact that it is LIVE drum and bass more of a statement.
