so right now one of my bands runs backing tracks for some songs (mostly just dance pop stuff) but there is a delay when the drummer need to lock in with the click between songs, what's the best way for use to trigger midi sequences and audio files and lock in with the drummer....

Depends how much gear you want to bring, really, and what your drummer's headphone (I'm assuming he's using headphones for this?) setup is re: amp and/or mixer. The simple way is to have the backing track in mono on one side, the click on the other, feed 'em to an iPod or the like. Lotsa people do this.

My solution has been laptop + interface, with the click assigned to its own output on the interface that only feeds into the drummer's monitor mix, and the main stereo outs feeding front-of-house. For more stripped-down stuff, we've used a Roland sampler set up like the above iPod, which gives the drummer control and also lets him trigger all our between-song bits of electronic weirdness, which we find preferable than stupid silence while someone switches instruments or talking to the crowd. "So, how 'bout that weather in Buffalo?" "Anyone heard any good jokes lately?" (to which one should say "what was the name of your band again?")

we're using backing tracks now, iPod one side and click to the other, but we would like to get away from some of that. But as you say, it seems like it's going to be such an added gearfest for gigs that we bring in 700-1500. I've suggested to just give me the tracks and I will edit them so they string together so there's less space between songs, linking one into the other, They like that idea so far.

I wish I got half that a gig.

The lappie + inyourface isn't bad, honestly. It's a few more cables, and that's basically it. Watch for errant drumsticks, though.

I just so happened to have a snazzy USB interface for sale, that I would definitely be willing to work with you on the price because you provide us this lovely forum, and you look good tuning :eyebrows: :cop:

I noticed that. I am thinking that would just do the trick. Is it a nice small inyourface?

Yeah it's a nice little desktop unit. I'd say cigar-box size but not as wide, and it is a solid little box. The inputs are combo jacks too, which I had to ask about and was embarrassed to discover
