Re: The MicroKorg is kind of awesome...
Why? Just for the "new toy"-ness, or for some particular sound or functionality?

Mike I might consider taking the MicroKorg off your hands.

I guess Im just sick of the sounds. I probably wont get rid of it though because everyone that comes over and plays with it, musician or not, has a blast.

What do you play yours through? And have you spent any time messing around deep in the menus? I actually really enjoy a lot of the sounds this thing makes. With a sub, it can be pretty crushing.

Re: The MicroKorg is kind of awesome...
I dig a bit of softsynth also, though at the moment i don't have any way to do MIDI on my laptop. I really like having hardware though. That is why i still haven't been able to get rid of all my Electrix stuff, even though i never really use it anymore. And the MicroKorg is such a nice little package. The keyboard is kind of tiny, but it is not as bad as some. For its size and cost though, it is pretty beast. Also sounds pretty fucking badass through a cranked guitar stack. Though, you really have to not care too much for your speakers, the way i run it.

Re: The MicroKorg is kind of awesome...
The microkorg is an awesome machine, and at the time I bought it, I knew nothing about synths or keyboards or anything like that. It taught me alot and is a great learning tool for some one thats in the position I was.
I have a bunch of different synth software that does everything the microkorg does plus 1000 times more. MK is obsolete now.

We actually brought ours back to 'Drome II the other day for vocoder purposes. It is too fun!
Also- Chris: what Electrix stuff do you have?

Re: The MicroKorg is kind of awesome...
Lets see, i have the Mo-FX, the Warp Factory(which is their craaaazzy vocoder-ish thing), and then the two little guys, the EQ-Killer and the only one i have never even considered ditching, the Filter Queen. RE: The Microkorg's vocoder functionality. When i first bought mine, it was way back when was sharing an apartment with my older sister in NYC. One of her favorite things of all time, is robot voices. Like, she goes fucking crazy about them. She wouldn't let me use the thing for like an hour, because she just wanted to pretend to be a Dalek. It was pretty awesome. Though the insano Electrix vocoder has way more shit going on, and way more flexibility/capabilities, the plug and play simplified MicroKorg style is pretty much all fun, all the time.

Re: The MicroKorg is kind of awesome...
That is a fine collection. Is the Filter Queen a scaled down Filter Factory?

Re: The MicroKorg is kind of awesome...
Sort of. The basic functionality is pretty much the same, but the Filter Queen has an envelope follower with an adjustable release control, while IIRC, the filter factory doesn't. On the other hand, the Filter Factory has a couple neat bells and whistles for doing its thing, and also has a boost/fuzz sort of circuit as well. I would like one of those, for sure, but i would just as readily take a second Filter Queen and run them side by side as a full rack width. But yeah, the filters are fucking beautiful. Back in the day, over a period of a couple years, i used them to destroy, oh about three pairs of subs.
