Post NBD.
Pictures are pending, as my camera lens somehow got fucked to all shit..

Anyways, it's a red Kramer Striker P-Bass body with a rosewood MIM Jazz neck on the fucker.
Also, it's got a Kent Armstrong (this is what the guy at the shop told me) PJ set and ridiculous paisley pickguard.

I also got a EHX Bass Blogger Fuzz/OD.
:D

The grand total between the two was less than $300.
I have been having lots of fun.

That sounds like an epic sort of Frankenbass.

The neck and body interface well enough, ie intonation and all?

Yeah, it's in tune with itself on every fret I've touched.

It's a damn comfy bass and from what I can tell by my shitty bass combo, a pretty righteous sounding bass.
I am enjoying maxing the fuzz and tone control on my Blogger and rolling the fader knob all the way to the J position.

Try this:

Trim the fuzz a bit
Roll the fader all the way to the J position, then roll back a 1/4 turn towards the P (3/4 J - 1/4 P mix)
Roll the tone knob back a hair

Should give you that raunchy fuzz tone, but with a bit more ballsy lows. Trim the fuzz if you get too much gainy mud from it.

You need a bass and need to start paying attention to cool bass players. This is doubly true since you play metal and the genre is severely lacking in awesome bassing. Learn your chord inversions, know your scales and modes and play a 5er tuned below your guitar. Lock in with the kick on the slow parts. Quit doubling the rhythm guitar exactly; that's mad gay, bro. There are more bassists than Steve Harris, Cliff Burton, Geezer Butler, Geddy Lee and Steve Digiorgio. (Geezer is still the goddamn man, but that's 'cause his riffs are fantabulous.) Pick and fingers are different tones and neither is superior to the other in this context; use as necessary. Harmony and knowing when to rawk with the kick or with the guitar are your friends here.

Why am I giving instructions on how to play metal bass?

I know all my modes by heart around the FB, but what is a chord inversion? not to be an idiot ahah. i'm thinking of getting myself something like a Carvin Bx1500 or bx500 then getting like a peavey millenium bxp 5 string or another good bass for around $300 and a cheap cab. i can play a bass, i just can't do it the right way.

Not a pianist, then, I take it? Chord inversions are nifty. First inversion means the third is in the bass, second inversion means the fifth is in the bass. (Talking major and minor triads here.) Gives you some interesting harmony options as a bass player if you don't just want to thump along playing the roots of whatever the rhythm guitar is doing.

My occasional metal band has a lot of harmonic movement going on in the bass thanks to my classical music background and knowing my way around a keyboard a little. The chuggier and more repetitive the guitars, the more fun stuff you can- or rather should- do with the bass to spice things up.

Second inversion is my personal favorite for the shit I play (bright happy major rawkin' shit).
But he's right, young Bradley.
Being a sick bassist is important for your band to be like, WHOLE NUVVA LEVEL status.
I try my best to look at the bass as a wholly separate instrument from guitar, not just a sub-octave shadowing tool.

I have a supersweetretarded Banthammer song I'm working on that has a lot of little bass goodies on it.
:D

It's actually not too far from the recording stages..
This is gonna be fun.

chord inversions will make you a better guitar player also, it will make you look at things differently. You'll get that not everything has to start on the root not for the chord. This and some acid will fucking groove your ride. While playing some great bass lines is super duper, finding how to be a pocket bass player can be awesome in it's own way.

also, Cam, sounds like a very cool bass
