Was going to poast the very same. :isay:

I also have to say that their Ichiban would make a sweet rawk stage guitar. Visually it is just the right kind of ridiculous.

Question to those who might be more familiar than I (never having played one)- what's the tuning stability like on a Jazzmaster bridge?

I've been looking at Jaguars lately, too... :red:

Old Jazzmasters have, IIRC, a problem with the neck/break angle and the bridge when it comes to tuning stability (though this was fixed in the new Classic Player models Fender just released).

There is a buzzing/rattling problem with the strings too, which can be fixed with a buzzstop bar (fixed on the CP models as well I believe).

There are also "Mastery" bridges or something, a replacement deal, that supposedly fix a lot of issues.

Stock, the bridges are only meant to go down, though you can set them up to float somehow. The range of movement is narrow, unlike strat trems, and seems to only like going about half a step down before giving you problems. If you stay in it's usable range though, you shouldn't see many problems with the stability.

It really comes down to how the guitar was built, how it is setup/modded and how you use it.

INB4 chris tells me how I am wrong.

Our hipster friend is (unsurprisingly) basically on point wif his Jazzmaster knowings on.

One of the best things about the Jazzmaster bridge, is that set up correctly, you can use the set lever to hold shit solid. It was meant for being able to set the bridge if the player broke a string. Once it is adjusted correctly, it is kind of like a quicky tremel-no. Lots of folks don't know how to set it up, or how it is supposed to work at all. It is a little fiddly, but once fiddled, it is doap.

That said, the jazzmaster bridge is awesome. It doesn't really allow for as extreme wang wrangling as other trem systems, but i found it just about perfect. More for subtle modulation than for like divebombs. Kind of like a Bigsby in that.

The Mastery bridge would address the issue that some have with the stock bridge on vintage guitars wearing enough that the posts can wobble front to back, throwing off tuning and intonation. The Mastery bridge has tighter tolerances and is made partly to undo exactly this wobble. It also reshapes the saddles themselves so they are less likely to catch the strings, which helps in letting the trem return the strings (more) accurately to pitch. A new bridge shouldn't have the wobble problem too much, and would benefit mostly from the better saddle design. I don't know what they cost, probably not super cheap. But very nice.

The other main problem with Jazzmasters is the angle at which the strings break over the bridge, and the distance they travel before they get to the tailpiece. Basically the angle is too shallow and the length is too long. So the strings can vibrate too much there making the buzz. The Buzz Stop is a super effective lo-fi solution. Basically just a bar of metal that clamps the strings down about midway between the bridge and tailpiece.

I really just need both.

Found some cheapy chinese knock-off Jazzmaster-esque bridges, but moastly, i am too broke to get them or any of the other biz i need to make more geetars.

The other day i disassembled the lowestang though. I am going to do some more routing in the control cavity so i can flip the bridge pickyup so it will be in polarity with the neck one. The novelty of out-of-polarity guitar sounds has worn off for now, and i like the guitar too much to be without the middle position setting.

I think that while it is apart i am going to see about prepping it for painting too. I found an interesting solution for sparkley silver, green, and purple finishes. I can't afford to buy the paint :red: but i figured, while i have the body apart i should prep it for some (hopefully not too distant, but the way things are going... ) future painting time.

On the more depressing front, i actually added up the value of all the parts in the thing for shits and giggles, and it came out a bit higher than i would have hoped. Particularly for a guitar with a Lowes pine body, a fixed bridge, and a chinese SX neck with the shit-ass stock SX tuners.

What sort of biz are you in need of? Beside specific guitar parts.

Tools or supplies?

Both? All three? :red:

I still need to get the Basement Beast running. That would make doing certain types of nice accurate work, easier.

But even if it was working. Or if i just decided not to use it to build things(as i have been forced to do anyhow)... I would still need to work with better wood, figure out a good/quick/accurate way to do planing/thicknessing with hand tools, acquire the correct pickups and hardware for the things i want to build, source good necks, etc, etc, et-fucking-c.

I mean i could build with thicknessed blanks and hand tools as is. But i just can't afford anything. It was really disheartening to see how even the cheapy salvaged/re-purposed bits i built the Lowescaster with added up. I cannot continue to work for free, but i also don't expect to be able to sell something this punk, for what i would have to. It is a ball buster. :poop:

Ah, damned.

I would like a King of Mexico brand Jazzmaster ...
