So it turns out GFS Tele necks have snap on covers that are super-easy to take off.

The pickup fucking opens up so much without the cover, I really don't see any reason to leave those fuckers on. I stand corrected on the Strat Neck > Tele Neck debate, but I am still replacing the Tele neck pup :cop:

Aye, telecaster purists would maintain that the shitty lipstick cover style pickup is one of the key components to the "TELECASTER SOUND". Because of that huge disparity in timbre and volume between the neck and bridge, they maintain that therein lies the ultimate flexibility of the telecaster as a noisemaker.

In my humble opinion, same as those fucking shitty three barrel bridges, it is a load of crap. :idk:

For certain uses and styles, having the rhythm pickup be quiet and dark at the flick of a switch is desirable(same reason Les Pauls have separate tone and volume controls for each position), but for what i use mine for, it is not a useful "feature". :red:

Funny you mention the 3-bar bridges, I am replacing that too.

I don't give a fuck if they are supposed to make the tone betrar or moar pyor. If I can't get it to be intonated well and stay that way, it pisses me off. I even have one of the Wilkinson compensated ones that are supposed to be betrar.

Yeah, my tele blasphemy runs strong.

I DO like the sound of the three barrel, but the intonation is such a fucking pain in the dick.

IMO, the modern tele style six saddle bridges also sound good, and have the bonus of being, er... actually accurately intonatable. That is what is in my MIM. It is what started in there too, but in between then and now, i tried a bunch of different things before coming back full circle. :red:

From my messings around, the bigger factor in "more tele" or "less tele" sounds had to do with whether or not the bridge pickup is mounted to a big metal plate that the saddles were also mounted to.

The metal plate always rings a little, and the pickups pick it up in generally subtle ways(and sometimes very unsubtle ones) and turn it into the "TELE BRIDGE SOUND". They also make the tele bridge pickup considerable more prone to microphonic feedback. :idk:

Anyhow, i am currently running a six-saddle hardtail strat style bridge in my Pinecaster, and it sounds fine too. The guitar was brighter and janglier with the three saddle trad tele one, but on the other hand, it is currently less prone to feedback, as the pickup is mounted to an aluminum plate that is separate from the saddles now. What i DIDN'T like at all in that guitar, was when i mounted the pickup straight to the body with screws. I thought it would make the thing more resonant, but in fact, it ended up making it dead and flatter sounding. :idk:

Yeah the Tele bridge plate is pretty damn important for the TELE BRIDGE SOUNDZ. I think the brass saddles do produce a nifty tone, but I feel like Stainless Steel saddles will still cop a nice jangle, and will allow me to intonate properly.

I might actually stick with a tele pickup in the neck position of my tele (lol, wut?) after pulling the cover off that one, I was pretty damn impressed in the difference of toanes. It reminded me of my strat necks. I might put one of those GFS fat-bodies in the neck though so it can try and keep up with the single-sized-bucker going in there.

Putting a 'bucker in a tele that isn't the neck position seems fucked up to me.

It's not really a Tele at that point. (A P90 is its own thing. :red: ) It just happens to be shaped like one. But then again, there's the Tele Deluxe... but that's more like a Les Paul for Fender players...

I can't decide what pickup configuration I want to go for on my Tele.

I shouldn't derail this thread though ...

true, My Tele Deluxe I don't really think of as a Tele. I love it but it doesn't do standard tele sound at all.
