Post Making my 77 a BFG
well kinda...

I don't use my '77 LP because with the active minihums it drives the front end hard, and switching guitars live is a nightmare going from active to passive or vice versa, at least for me.

So I picked up a Gibson p90 for the Neck and Bill LAwrence XL550 Minihumbucker for the bridge, I have a innards (pots etc) from my 2007 (I replaced them with an RS kits) Install ed the p90 last night will install the mini once it comes in, p90 sounds great.

pics when done....

Did you have to rout for the P90?

Ooh! Excite! :D How hot is that Bill Lawrence?

Re: switching- even with passives it can be a bitch. When I switch from Strat to Tele I get an assload more output. The silverburst Tele especially.

nope, my 77 is a deluxe and luckily one of the few that someone did not route for a full sized humbucker, the deluxes came with minis which are the same route as P90's. Mine just had the rare Overlend Active MH.

You know, i never realized this. :red: I thought that the P90s were slightly wider than the minihums.

Also, the standard passive minihum Deluxes are perhaps the finest Les Pauls available. I like them more for some of the same reasons i like the SG more than the LP i guess. Tighter, brighter, more flexible tonally for what i look to make a guitar do. They are excellent guitars.

yeah I want to restore this back to total stock at some point, but I did not get the original minis. dude who sold it to me (for $350) thought the Overlends wee stock, Gibson denied this.
