Squier is a hell of a lot better than it was when I started playing. |

Yep. They have stepped up their game a tiny bit. A friend of mine was raving about a 5-string bass of theirs the other day; I can't say I'm not curious. I've heard nothing but good things about the current generation of Squiers for a few years now. |

'tis funny, they started out real good in the old Jap stuff and they seem to have real good stuff now, it was just the 90's-2010 they they got the bad rep. I have that 87 strat which feel like butter in the hands |

Folks over at the telecaster forums often cite the modern Squires as about the best options for modern Fender stuff. The Squire Classic Vibe ones are supposed to be especially nicey. It was really only the middle period of Squire that sucked, from what i have seen. The earlier ones were Japanese and a lot of them were fucking awesome. I have run across more than a few really excellent MIJ Squire strats from the 80s-90s. Then most of the model line moved to China or Indonesia or wherever else they were cranking them out, and those Squires are the shittiest ones. They have shitty bodies(somewhat frequently plywood, but not at all consistently so) and pretty consistently the worst tuners and hardware available outside throwaway Taiwanese guitars from the 70s. Now, i think they are still Chinese, but the quality of the Chinese factory's output is waaaay up, and the general consumer standard for ghetto cheap guitars is higher than ever right now, even at the lowest ranges. End result, the new Squire are pretty rad, and decently priced, while the rest of the Fender line seems intent in catching and passing Gibson in the amount of money they want for guitars. |

My Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster has one of my favorite necks of all time on it. Honestly if they keep the quality up on them, I plan on buying a lot more of their stuff. It is all solid gear except for the uber-cheap models. |

Devin speaks truth, that guitar is definitely some quality work. |
