Post High gain SD humbucker comparison vid

11:30 has soloed guitar tones.

My thoughts:

Alternate 8 has an intriguing scooped sound! JB has that familiar nasal sound that fits certain roles very well. Full Shred is kind of 'meh'. Distortion sounds 'useful', like it's got all the frequencies you'd need. '59/Custom hybrid sounds nice. Invader doesn't. Dimebucker has some severe presence. Blackout metal has some kind of cocked wah thing going on.

I liked the JB, the 59/Custom Hybrid, the Custom and the Dimebucker.

The Alternate 8 is interesting but definitely pretty scooped.

Interesting. The 59/Custom hybrid was my favorite, followed by the Custom and the standard Blackout. I suppose I'm not surprised, as I used a Custom 5 for a big long time myself, and one of my friends swears by the Blackouts. (Also, his toan improved a ton when he started replacing his EMGs with those.)

I've owned- and liked- the JB and the Distortion in the past, but for whatever reason, they didn't rate highly for me here.

Shockingly, I actually liked the Invader. I was surprised. It has a reputation for being muddy, and I don't think I've ever heard one in person. I expected a lot worse than I heard. It had kind of an odd thing going on in the mids, but it wasn't bad. Full sounding. I thought the Full Shred was alright, but for that sort of sound, there's better (see above). Sort of dull in the top end.

The brighter and scoopier things... Not really my thing at all. :idk: They were clear, though, and didn't seem to be lacking in definition or anything. Just not my taste. Thanqs for poasting this! :isay:
