That there is a helluva axe fo sho.

I'm not really into this type of tele as much because 55% of why I like teles is for aesthetic reasons, and this tele goes against that aesthetic. :monocle: But that's just me, and like my opinion, man.

It is sort of a funky looking guitar, I've gotta say. I think that is a large part of the appeal for me, as well. The neck pickup/middle position also happen to be a sound I am veryveryvery much into for "pretty" sounds, and it's bridge pickup is pretty bright and pissy so it was a pretty simple choice for me when looking at guitars.

I actually really like the looks of that one. :isay:

I think it is the specific shade of the burst or something.

Xaviere makes a very straightforward tele. They are not exceptional, but you would struggle to find a similar quality new piece for what they go for. That said, a used squier is looking more attractive every year.

Heard nothing but good things about the current Squier line, especially the "higher end" Squiers. I know IRL dudes who'll say they're better than the MIM Fender standards. Guy at the guitar store near my house swears by it, and he sees a lot of gear that isn't super-high end stuff, and I'm sure he's not making huge profits selling Squiers, especially to someone who comes in being all on about weird pedals and vintagey stuff- he doesn't know I am actually that audience too.

Well my sx tele is here. My mommy and daddy ordered it for Christmas. :red:

It is quite a good looking axe. A lot darker and more compressed sounding than other teles I've tried. Dunno why, but I like that. It suits me. Neck is kind of shred worthy, which also suits me. Sustain is excellent! It needs a set up. It I'm super pleased.

And yes, pics/clips. :hitler: :red:

Someone is a sci-fi fan, and that is an Iron Maiden record.

So you did go with the black after all? Classy: it looks it. A shame about the pickups, but what can you do? (Well, swap 'em of course.) As long as it's a good player- which it apparently is... Still going with a traditional Tele set?

Yarr, that is some hot-ass shit. I rather like the bound black tele thing. :huzzah:

My experience with the SX pickups is that they are actually pretty good like proper vintage windy sorts of things. Weak as hell, but in a setup that responds properly to a low output guitar, they can sound pretty great for some sorts of shit. The strat i had of theirs i never changed the things out of, because it was basically just a surf rock guitar and they worked well for it.

For just about anything else though, for sure i would swap them out right quick. I actually found the tuners on that SX strat to be the only really unworkable part that i needed to replace tho. They just would not stay where i put them.

Yeah... I played it into my Laney and it sounded really inspiring. But so not digging the sounds into any of my practice maps.

Had my heart set on getting a set of Texas Specials, from the same webpage that sells some 4 way switches. But they are out of stock. I want something a little louder and thicker and punchier and stuff, but still very much telecaster pickups. Keystones seem to be a great cost effective option but not so much as a rocker pickup.

Also going to replace the nut and maybe the saddles. I don't think I mind the pots. I checked them... about 320k. Hey, that's kind of an okay number.

Yarr, for single coils 320k is pretty solid. Any less and they seem a bit dark-leaning for me. I usually put in 500ks or so, but it really does bring out a certain undeniable shrillbright wif single coils, and is a value better suited to humbuckers or my favorite, SC-sized railbuckers.

I definitely prefer a tele to have a 7k or 8k sort of output range for the bridge. I like a 5k-6k for the neck, but a tougher bridge is what sounds right to me. Most Texas-style sets will be around there.

Also, you mentioning the nut reminds me that i did replace mine on that guitar. The totally ghetto normal-ass shitplastic one that came on the guitar actually cracked and broke when i was filing the grooves a bit to set the thing up and get it intonated.

I'm pretty sure Texas-something are what's in my silverburst, and that bridge pickup is ballsy as all hell. Thick, too. You've heard it a million times in clips now. And ditto on the manlier-sounding bridge pickup. A Tele is the bridge pickup, when you get down to it, if you want it for its characteristic Tele-ness and not the shape or neck profile. A Strat is all about the neck pickup. But yeah, once one discovers the Tele bridge pickup you grew up associating with country twang is full of Pure Rock Fury (my apologies to Clutch) once it drinks down a few swigs of gain, it's all fuckin' over. It is a mean sound for sure. Yeah, it doesn't have the output of a 'bucker (well, a hot one gets in the ballpark of a middling 'bucker) and it's a different voicing, but you can't argue it has the appropriate attitude for harder rocksounds.

I have GraphTech saddles on my black Strat, and if I had cash I'd put them on everything (along with Schaller or the drop-in-replacement Fender Schaller clone locking tuners). I like 'em a lot. They stand up to abuse from stage work and they are, I think, easier on the strings, as they claim. I have a heavy right hand. Swankier hardware, if you can swing it, is worth it, I think. The good aftermarket stuff is actually a real upgrade from, say, MIM or even MIA Fender hardware (unless you get the LSR roller nut and locking tuners, both of which are nice- but those are stock only on the American Deluxes and custom shop stuff, mostly). It's not like buying a $200 cable.

Also, if you dig them, Soundgarden's Superunknown. Tele all over that, and it's obvious as a Tele-slinger. Legend has it that's mostly Dual Rec, with the clean(er) channel for dirt and the high gain channel for clean. I think it's a great sounding record, but one has to be in the mood for Zeppelin/Sabbath, really.

That's a really nice looking tele Geoffrey, exactly the colour scheme I'd go for :tu: I keep getting tele cravings but kinda feel like 2 guitars is enough for me right now.

So I ordered a four way switch and a set of pickups... not telling what make or model!

Replacement nut and saddles should be easily sourced by a local means...

I apparently don't feel this way at all... my guitar collection grows. I have entrusted my yellow strat to my girlfriend as the little neck suits her hands more than mine, but still I've got a lot of mouths to feed! (Lucky girl, it's got some good pickups, too... Texas Specials and a '59 bridge) I'm thinking of building a multiple guitar rack, because this shit is getting out of hand.

Question for Chris, hopefully he can shed some light on this...

So I'm gonna wire my tele for four way switching. Everyone says you need to run a new ground wire to the neck pickup cover so you don't introduce more noise. Okay, but, I removed the neck pickup cover. So am I going to get more noise?
