The Scholastic gig is paying me well enough to where I don't feel so guilty treating myself a bit for my next guitar.

My current main squeeze is my FGN tele, which is a weird longer scale with dual buckets tuned to D standard. I want something with a bit more jingle jangle.

My main concern on both fronts is the neck. I tend to lean on more modern necks, not super thin but definitely with a flat radius.

Now, Fender has the current Deluxe Nashville tele which has a lot to love. Nice modern Fender neck, locking tuners, Noiseless pickups. Kind of a crazy good guitar for ~$800. Granted it's MIM, but hey I won't turn up my nose to a solid guitar.

Other than that I am looking at older MIA Nashville's, and the occasional MIJ Nashville that makes it stateside.

I fucking love the Rickenbacker aesthetic. I also think they sound great. Problem is the modern 620, which I had in my shop and fucked with often, has kind of a skinny neck that does not agree with my sloppy hamfisted playing. That said I do know the 650a (my actual dream Ric), 650c, and 650d have wider necks.

The 650a is rare af, there is one on sale here for $2k, which while I want to treat myself is a lot of money. The 650c has a finished maple neck which I am into, the 650d is au natural which has perks but not sure I will love. Main issue there is they are tough to find so I will have to do some hunting to actually get to try before I buy.

I have time to go hunting, so any thoughts, or other ideas to go hunting for?

Personally, for jangle, i would go Rickenbacker or "other".

I am into a nashville tele mainly as a swiss army knife sort of thing i think. It is a tele with a strat shoved in it. It would make sense if you wanted more of what you already have, plus some normal scale sort of strat vibes.

But a rickenbacker is really a different thing. Personally, i kind of feel that the tiny necks are part of that jam, but i get it at some level, the desire to keep things comfortable.

My own angle would probably be to go for the most extreme version of what a rickenbacker could be and get a shortscale one like a 325, but that is because i would want the wildly unique sound of it primarily, and would be okay with having top learn to play around its physical quirks. I have a lot of other guitars for the comfort.

In lieu of that though, i would probably look into other guitars that utilize similar (or similar sounding) pickups like the toasters or the TV jones/gretsch type of action. I see them randomly in a lot of random guitars.

Oooh, never saw this one before:

EDIT: Aw, it looks like they might just be regular old 'buckers though.

You raise an excellent point. I love the double cutaway Gretschs. I should add I do have one hard criteria. No trems or bigsbys. I have no use for them and I find them generally troublesome. This is mostly due to the aforementioned hamfistedness.

That double is hot. And teal is my kind of my soft spot (a la the Ric 650a). I can also definitely get some poor bastard salesperson to order one in, cause I was one and know they can do.

I hear you on that trem biz. I have somehow gotten to the point where every one of the guitars that i play all the time has some trem onnit.

But i NEVER use the trems.

So all i really get out of the deal is like, less sustain, and more tuning instability.

Which is pretty cool.

Listen, I get it. If you can get use out of it then it's worth the cost. But I have yet to come across a trem that didn't come with a considerable cost.

I get no use out of them. It unfortunately cuts out a lot of guitars I would love otherwise. Jazzmasters especially come to mind with that janky ass setup, and most Fender offsets fall in line behind them.

I actually kind of hilariously built a fixed bridge Mustang, which i later routed out and modified, to include the even-more-janky-than-the-jazzmaster, original style mustang trem.

so Nashville teles... i haz 2....

Nashville Power tele (Fishman piezo bridge) and my Tom Anderson is a very Stratty Nashville Tele.

Both are excellent fuckers. I found my power tele on reverb and got it for around $500. its really good nice feel and the piezo works verey well.

That just adds an extra bonus should you find one of those.

extra bonus... use 3sigma audio acoustic IR with the piezo... holy fuckballs.... :poop:

Rickenbacker 650D. Love the wide neck on it, sounds great. Got one of those new Vox analog modeller amps and this plays nicely with the dirtier vox sounds. Super into it.
