Ahh, refreshing familiarity. It was in C standard for a month or so, then B standard for a month for that, and Bb standard for 3 or 4 days before that. It's nice to be home again. :nods:

I hope your stay in Bb standard was enjoyable, though.

D Standard was my favorite for chugginess. :tu: I like how B sounds, but it can also be a bit much, especially for anything quick. At some point i will acquire or build a seven string telecaster that will solve the problem for me though.

Anyhoo, right now all i have in D is one of my acoustics. It is because i currently don't trust the guitar to survive very long at full tension, but, i also like the sound of it. It also makes singing easier when i let my voice fall out of use for too long, which lately has been the case.

Lately i have been playing quite a bit in two old favorites of mine though: DADF#AD and DADABE. :isay:

Everything else is i have is just tuned to boring old E standard.

I want to try DADF#AD.

I think it may be a bit more usable than DDAF#AD, though I do love the droning D stuff.

Maybe I need to use both

Yeah, i like it a lot. Though, i have to kind of force myself not to do a lot of 'cliche open d" stuff with it. I have that problem with most open tunings though. Real easy to descend into boring(lazy, really) playing when you know that just barring everything or letting go of the neck will always make a good chord.

One thing i like to do though is play things that i wrote in E standard, unchanged, in open D, and see what comes out. Sometimes it is something cool. Sometimes some minor tweaking to the notes and stuff will yield something i like more than the original E standard thing. :isay:

I pretty much play open chords the same as standard tuning, and just kind of figure out what patterns and shapes (don't) work.

It was, however I couldn't come up with anything cool in it that wasn't just droning on the top string.

My acoustic has a broken neck. Fortunately, it's broken in such a way that tension actually ADDS strength to it, so I can keep it in standard. The intonation is fine, but the closer to the 12th fret you get, the more clanky it gets.

I've been playing thrash in D standard since I figured out how to palm mute, I think.

It's definitely been quite a while. I always end up going back to it, no matter how much I dick around with tunings. D standard just has the best balance of girth AND brightness.

I've been playing in drop D or DADGAD a lot lately. :nods:

You can get some really interesting chord voicings that way. It's not just for powerchord chugging.

Most of the clean/pretty shit I come up with is actually drop D. Or C, in some cases. I like the sound of a low tuned clean guitar for certain things.
