Fuckyeah, Warwick makes a set of bass strings with a low .175 for F# tuning.  Sub-octave Snaxobass, huzzah!

Meh, it may be a sweet bassamajig, but i don't dig its visuals. I generally don't like that rounded-off-everything vibe. I see it like the PLay-Doh version of instrument design. To me it is as if i when i open up the control cavity to do some soldering, i should expect it to be some squishy off-blue color inside, and smell strongly of plastic byproduct. I prefer some violence and angles. Or, more specifically, the Fender-ish mix of things curvy and not. I may be turning slightly into a traditionalist curmudgeon. |

This. I was actually thinking of dropping Warwick/MEC electronics in my Jazz. I love the growl they have. But I would like to go back to a 5. I do prefer the Fender aesthetics. They look... right, for a bass. I am totally a traditionalist curmudgeon when it comes to guitar/bass designs, mostly. I admit that. The exception being that I like the look of Parkers for some reason. I don't know why. I really want to actually like Parkers, but that tone is soooooo thin compared to a good Fender or Gibson.

IMO most of the Parkers look shit rotten too. However, i do admit to liking(kind of a lot) the Dragonfly body shape. I couldn't really place why though.

The Dragonfly is pretty nice looking, actually. Very sleek. I like the look of the regular Fly in plain natural mahogany and silver รก la Adrian Belew as well. The rest are either wonky or ugly. |

I got one of these sexy mofos for less than $200 in mint condition and it is an amazing instrument Highly recommend checkin one out, it's a Yamaha BB414

Indeed, the bb415. The scale length is slightly longer on the B too which is a pretty cool feature. There are fancier versions of these with active electronics and whatnot but I like the old passive setup myself....hard to get a shitty tone

I just realized: my bassist has one of these as a beater bass. The four-string. Currently in pieces as he's replacing the pickups. IMO, it's way easier to get a shitty tone with actives.

I truly believe the P/J setup to get the best bass tones for me. I have been paying extra attention lately to which bassists used on certain recordings, my favorite death metal bass tones come from teh P/J. Which makes sense, really. Fat ass punchy bottom end with growling midrange. |

Interesting - I wonder if he will have any trouble because the BB stock pickups are pretty unique in shape and mounting method. FWIW I think the stock pickups are sweet! And I agree with your second sentence completely
