Re: NGD
I was shopping for a MIM but this deal blew all the MIM's out of the water - although they were in better condition. At the absolute worst I may have to replace the volume pot but thats hardly a big job.

Looks like you now own Snaxocaster's snaxocaster. Also, i am really way more of a fan than i probably should be, of the mother-of-toilet seat pickguard materials. I would totally own and play a whole guitar made out of that shit.

LOL, the resemblance is striking. Awesome. Chris, no doubt you've seen guitars with a massive chunk of mother-of-toilet-seat covering the whole body?

Re: NGD
That is a fine looking strat. I like the MIJ stuff. I actually may have a NGD with MIJ content in the next week or so.
Also toilet seat is wondrous.

Being Boston-based, i saw them live, many many times, in that era. Actually, i haven't listened to them almost since then. I should find the CDs...

Re: NGD
Oh me likey.
Is it bad I kinda want a purple metallic strat with a either anodized aluminum or gold mother of toilet seat pickguard?
Like, extra gaudy.

Re: NGD
Yeah. Generally not into gold on purple, myself. The J. Mascis sig looks nice with the gold anodized, but then, the gold is pretty understated. Now, a purple sparkle guitar, with a white mother of toiletseat pickguard? That, i am totally into. Actually, that is basically what my main tele is in certain lighting situations. And i am thinking that it might be sort of what my Lowestang winds up as, if i can find a sufficiently cheap source for the pickguard material, and some sort of source for purple flakinesses. Otherwise, it will probably wind up being sparkle green with boring white plastic.

Re: NGD
Sparkle green is nice. I think it's nifty either way. Though in either circumstance white mother-of-toilet-seat would take it over the top.

Yeah I would most likely go with the anodized pickguard. I like the smoother understated look over the gaudyness of toilet seat. I would call it my Kobe strat.

Re: NGD
Motherfucker! Never got to see them I got into them not long after some boots came out. Even after 7 or 8 years I've still not got bored of them but I dont listen to a lot of the shit i did back then. Awesome band. Myself and the bassist from my band are getting together to jam some karate stuff. Dont know where its going to go. May do a few gigs doing a karate set or we might work on some original material.

Re: NGD
Have you ever heard the stuff that Geoff Farina did with Jodi Buonanno under the Secret Stars moniker? That is probably my favorite of his stuff. It is way more subdued than even the Karate stuff, almost entirely quiet 4-track-sounding acoustic guitar sorts of stuff. But yeah, Karate were pretty great. Especially on that first and third record, IMO. I wasn't quite as into the other ones, though pretty much everything else is basically good. EDIT: Actually, now i am listening to the Secret Stars stuff, and i don't like it as much anymore? Probably because i am not the emotional wreck i was ten years ago? Also, what i had of theirs back then, i thought was the Genealogies record, but looks like it was a random mix tape a friend of mine made of that album, and the first Geoff Farina solo record, Usonian Dream Sequence. In light of what i just learned, it is actually that first solo record that is what i like. That, and only like five out of the seventeen songs from Genealogies. The cassette my friend made me just said "Secret Stars" on it, so never even knew until just now!

Re: NGD
Havent really listened to too much secret stars. I listen to reverse eclipse on occasion though. For me though it was all about the jazzy sparseness of it all.

Re: NGD
To me, that was what made them unique out of a lot of other indie rockish stuff in a similar vein, but i always liked the jazzish element to be way more understated. I don't really get along as well with Reverse Eclipse as i do with Usonian Dream Sequence for that. I like the more folkish angle, i think. Anyhow, live, it was pretty much all about their bassist and drummer being fucking machines. As a band they were so tight, it was like, borderline robotic. I never noticed what a badass the bass player was until the first time i saw them live. In that small club atmosphere with the bass cranked a bit extra, it really came together in a different way for me. It is however odd to me, that Geoff Farina had to call it quits because the shows were fucking up his hearing. They never struck me as a terribly loud band live. They usually sounded *better* than whoever else was in the bill, but actually, they also usually sounded a bit quieter to me.
