Most of it was done on the neck pickup. Left distorted track is the clean on full tilt, right is the crunch channel.

Thankee,

It still lacks bass so I'm going to use a fucking massive coupling cap on the output stage 100-220n or something to see if that brings it back.

The Boost stage needs bringing down a peg. May drop the plate load to 47K and add a bit more attenuation to the output.

I am shooting for the exact same interface. I just need to get some expendable cashiness in hand.

I'm gonna try to steal my managers speakrars so I can listen to this clip.

Its served me well and for the price (especially used, paid £250 for mine over a year ago) nothing compares. Its never fucked up on me once in combat.

That is pretty much the conventional wisdom for them, it seems.

Everyone I talk to who uses one, (or any of the Saffire line, really) seem to love the everliving shit out them. It comes after my new laptop in priorities of things to buy. I need to have something to record on first, sadly

I'll probably finish it up tomorrow. Needs a few layered parts adding and of course, the ending.
I had a 22n cap spare so I stuck it in parallel with the 47n coupling cap on the output stage and its improved the bass. Tomorrow on my lunch I'm gonna buy a 220n (and get anally raped in maplins, $5 for polys! motherfuckers...) to see if that helps. I may well bump up the other coupling caps too but im going to order them rather than get totally tag fucked.

And score! Some of our old tat from the labs was being thrown out so I rescued some stuff.
First we have:

Image
an old 2ch. 20MHz o-scope. Handy. I've wanted a scope for a while.

And....
Image
some old mullard el34s and a GZ34 that were in an old HV power supply that was being thrown out. I have no idea if they work or if they do how much life is in them.

Fucking sweet! That GZ34 is fucking gold, and there is a good chance that it will function well for you, as the longevity of the proper oldschool rectos is verrrry good.

I would have taken the whole power supply, myself :red: , what kind of transformers were in it?

The EL34s, who knows, do you have a tester? You might get lucky with them though. Those Mullards are super highly regarded, as i am sure you know.

I have an ollllddddschool O-scope here, that my grandfather built in the fifties or sixties. I still haven't used it even once though, as i need to go through it and make sure it is all in proper condition before i fire it up. Which means i need to know more about building oscilloscopes than i currently do.

So far i haven't needed it, but i am curious about how various things i have built are functioning, in a more detailed and technical manner than my ears can provide.

They were from an old HV PSU so it output kilovolts! The PX looks pretty beefy. All that crap isnt being junked until later in the week so I may well pop down and liberate the PX although I think it was pretty well attached. Its being binned as it doesnt work for whatever reason. Could just be that the GZ crapped its pants.

I have some other old mullard XF2 EL34s and they sound great but I'm saving them as there is no point burning them up to rehearse. If these work okay than I have 6 or 7 mullards and a philips EL34 :poop:

Also o-scopes are fucking great for finding where the signal goes wrong/noisy!

Swapped the output coupling cap for a 220n and removed the 820p bright cap from the gain pot. Much improved bass and chugga chugga action now :rawk: Its still not what I'd call bass heavy though however i've yet to try it through any of my other amps so it may be a peculiarity of my A15's xf return :dildo:

Added a 500p treble cut to V2b which has helped get rid of the fizz (roll off ~5kHz), next i'll add one to the boost stage too

Ha, changed the lead slope resistor to 22k (yeah, low I know) and now it has some low end clout. also disconnected the fizz cap as I needed the brightness back. By running the mv cranked I can get a sweet we live era electric wizard tone :huzzah: lost a lot of the brightness though!

I think I'll try a 57k slope with a 300p treble cap. that looks to give me a similar tonality but with a bigger range so its more useful.

Why not toss a 250k pot in there for the slope? The contour knob is big on flexibility. :idk:

If I do I'll be forever dicking with it :poop: An on-off-on dpdt switch to add resistors in parallel would probably get me to where I want to be.
