You should have gone with the Miami Heats.

No way they can lose.

I do want to try some emi's, specifically the swamp thang. I dont think they'd sit well in a mix with my T100s though as they're 5db more efficient :panic:

My Twin is loaded with Swamp Thangs... they're a good bit brighter than Texas Heats. Which is to say, they're still darker than any Celestion that I know of... except maybe T75s, but Swamp Thangs have much more midrange content than a T75.

I got Texas Heats because they're not as dark as the Genz Benz speakers in my G-flex 2x12, and because they have the tightest low end of any guitar speaker I've found, except for EVM-12Ls... I would've got EVs, but I'd like to still be able to carry the fucker by myself.

It's funny how different people perceive different speakers as "dark" or "bright". I'd never call a 75 "dark". Bassy, yes, but not "dark". At the same time, I think V30s are dark and midrangey. That big midrange spike they have that registers to a lot of people as bright and harsh is just... mids to my ears. I don't hear V30s as having a ton of top end at all.

I hated speaker shopping.

I'll have to do it again soon, and I am not looking forward to it.

It's pretty awful. :red:

Play through everything you can with a sitar and map of known qualities. That's really the best way, unfortunately.

I wish I could.

The local shops suck, and don't really carry a variety of gear. Most of the amps are new Fender Combos, new Vox Combos or the new Marshall combos.

If they have a cabinet, it usually has stock speakers from the factory (Eminence/Celestion designed), and not anything that I would be buying on the speaker market.

On the off chance they have a cabinet with non-factory speakers, they are usually V30s.

Thankfully, I like my WGS Retro 60/WGS BL80 combo.

Yikes. Not even a 1960 with 75s or a used Marshall with Greenies or used Mesa with C90s which are really CL80s? :(

I have only seen one used Marshall JCM 2000/1960a in the shop. I am sure they get more, but it probably exits quickly. Premium gear is difficult to come by.

I have only ever seen two Mesas, both Dual Recs, both through Traynor 4x12s. Actually, they have one of the two now, and I think it is the same Traynor cab, and someone just bought the head last time.

A pawn shop near me has a 1960a with greenies I am looking at. But no amps to play it through

Ouch. That's really ungood. 1960s with 75s are the plainest-Jane "decent" stock cab there is. I shudder to think what you're subjected to. I thought Buffalo was a gear wasteland, with most- the vast majority of- peeps around here playing through random cheapshit (I see lots of cheap 1x12 SS combos onstage around here) and the ones who have jobs with a Marshall/5150/Rec or a Fender if they're not in a metal/punk/hardcore band. There's a handful of geeks who will show up with a rack or niceynice shit, but they're thin on the ground.

It's kinda funny as I've seen a bunch of goodies in stores around here, and on a fairly regular basis- and there's a big boutique shop not too far out of the city- but it almost never makes it onto a stage. Not any stage I've seen here. Maybe I need to find lawyer-blues venues in the 'burbs?
