Re: It's nice to have the Dirty 30 back up and running when.
My chick does this to me. We went to see a friends band Saturnight and the guitarist had a real nice Soldano combo (in purpley purple no less) and it sounded just great. My chick says to me I should have that cute purple amp so I mentioned it may not quite be in the budget at the moment. I start talking to the guitarist between sets about gear meaning to get around as to what model the map was but we talked about guitars for so long I never found out. I talked to the singer today (also the singer/other guitarist in my acoustoproject) and he was telling me that dude spent around 5k for that amp. Yeah that's a bit over my current budget.

That clean channel doesn't have a fuckton going on. I am actually a little surprised that it is dirty enough for you with that 30w output section. Gain-wise, it shouldn't put out a terribly huger amount of distortion than the Z Maz. It is a different flavor though, and IIRC, has the classic voxy/matchless violent PI sort of ideas. Interesting. I actually don't know of an amp that is a 30w EL34 Matchless Spitfire clone with a Vox-esque 5-way tone switch. I will be curious to see what Badcat suggests.

I was surprised at how much dirt I got out of the thing without pegging the volume. I would be totally happy with that + some pedals when violence is necessary. The gain channel has far more gain, even with single coils, than I've used in years.
The Z was a lot cleaner- even running flat out it barely broke up at all- and the feel was very stiff.

Aye, i think that if they were a bit dirtier, i would probably dig the Maz.

Up all the way, it is roughly as clean as my clean tone and feels like a JMP on, like, 2. The feel of the thing is very Marshally, very dry and stiff, despite the power tubes doing their business. It's not a bad sounding amp by any stretch, but it's not for me. I still haven't heard back from Bad Cat.

That's probably an SLO combo, then, by the price. Not exactly common, either. It is probably full of Warren Haynes-y goodness. But yeah, you should get that cute purple amp.

Aye, but i run humbuckers aboot 90% of the time, so it would be a bit different. Did they have any other Zs there or just the Maz?

This is true. You'd definitely get more grit out of the thing. The 18w Maz sounds like it's just loud enough to hang with a drummer of reasonable loudness.
There was a Galaxie head, a couple cabs, and a 2x10 Maz combo that were out on the floor. We had to bail though, so I didn't get to give the Galaxie a shot. I have no idea what it's supposed to be like.

Re: It's nice to have the Dirty 30 back up and running when.
fuck I want another amp... I hate myself. I gigged last night using the Bug, which I like the clean channel and usually just overdrive it with the OCD, but I tried the drive channel which I could not use the OCD with at all with about not dirt on it at all, I was very unhappy with it uless I just used the dirt on the amp alone. Problem is I usually like just a touch of dirt on a dirt channel then a real nice clean channel, but I did not get the droids I was looking for last night. I love the Rebel tone but alas, one channel. Didn't want to breal out the 6100 and 2x12 for a quite benefit gig...

That would actually be kind of cool. Or, Second Rebel and Cab + A/B/Y switch for stereo options

Stereo is awesome if you can get away with it.

Re: It's nice to have the Dirty 30 back up and running when.
I really wish I could. I do run my guitar to two amps simultaneously from time to time. I use my Whammy or the Chorus pedal to split the signals. I usually run my FXed up stuff through the Vox AD30 on a cleanish AC30 model, then run a dry signal through a fuzz into a dirty map. It works well, but I have yet to figure out how to mic it properly.

Very carefully. Alternately, with a pointed stick. Really, depends on what you're going for with the stereo-ness, whether you're trying to layer tones or if you're going for a big wide ambient... stereo thing. It may also help to have pairs of mics for this. Or not. It's more a matter of how you want to fit it into the mix, and work from there.

Re: It's nice to have the Dirty 30 back up and running when.
I am using the Audix OM2 and the Blue Ball mic through my Micromix. I might use 1 mic per speaker (orange to Hellatone 30 and Vox with it's crappy stock speaker), and pan them to different sides. I really just do it for a more layered sounds, and because supa-fuzz and modulations don't seem to agree. So I keep them separated.

I stereo my DSL & 6100 at home a lot. But 'tis not a great small club package as such. also, yes I like the Rebel Tone but with a/b ing them I would either have to use second cab or put each head through one of the speakers which is not so bad. This may actually be an option as I am typing a respose. Although I myself have been intrigued with a couple of new combo maps as I have been looking today.

Valid point- two Marshall stacks is not a particularly good small club rig. What combo maps have you been eying?

Re: It's nice to have the Dirty 30 back up and running when.
Realistically I would dig an amp that gives me 6L6 (6V6) clean and EL34 dirty but not too dirty. I still like to be able to boost with my dirt box. I am actually very happy with my 6100 but it is fuckton heavy in it's case and I still lug a 2x12.

Tor, have you ever taken a look at the Jet City stuff? Basically Chinese versions of Soldano circuits, some interesting amps, not very pricy. Maybe worth checking out anyhoo.
