I just went back to find the only stuff i recorded with the 900. I wish i had mixed it better! :red:

It might even be fixable, but i would have to get my tape 4-track back first. :red:

Functioning four-tracks are probably thin on the ground these days, I fear.

Mine was in great(basically like new) shape when i let a friend in need borrow it.

Unfortunately, the friend to whom i lent it, is one who in the past has either not returned, or returned in less that perfect state, other borrowed items. :red:

I am hoping for a different outcome this time. But who knows. He is a good friend and he really needed a recording solution at the time. It was all i could give him.

Unfortunately, in the moment, i did not really consider that if it doesn't come back, i can't do much with all of the 4-track tapes and mixes i made with it. :red:

I haz disappoint. The deal for the Bogner did not go through. The guy traded it instead of getting cash from me. Time to look again.

Well now we will just have to rob him.

We tried to go the diplomatic route, he resisted.

THE TIME FOR NEGOTIATIONS HAS PASSED.

HE DREW FIRST BLOOD!

He was a nice enough bloke, and I didn't ask to lower the price, he was just looking for a trade over his cash price. $1050 for a Shiva is not a bad price

For the combo? Fuckyeah. Too bad it fell through.

Keep scoping TGP though, and you will likely find another one. :idk:

I consider that cracklepop high end inherent in cranked old Marshalls to be the main component of that tone in reference to some things said earlier.
:idk:

Makes the gain sound just as aggressive as more modern high gain circuits without having to actually have that much gain on top.
Just boost the bastard and you've got some angry ass sounds.

Indeed. For the combo, that's a fucking great deal.

Shit bro, thats nice!

The 900's have 2k primaries and the 800's have 1k7 so they probably have quite a bit less power. Shit a 50W JMP pumps out close to 100W before power clipping!

Thank you sir for the technical "I know what goes on inside of amps" explanation of why my '76 JMP 2204 (with the mids dimed, through a quad box of V30s, no less!) seemed so incredibly goddamn fucking loud. :dukes:

You are in for a treat re: solo tones if it responds like the real one does. The :snax: feels like a real map- and I've played it repeatedly, enough to confirm this?- and a cranked-up Shiva feels like it plays itself. Quoth the engineer who recorded my soloing through one on a record I did some years back "it sounds like the amp's about to explode... I like it!" :rawk: IMO, a cranked Shiva is more "fluid" than even a Mark-series Boogie. This is coming from someone who was mostly playing Marshall stuff at the time. The cranked Bogner made soloing easier. The feel was so much less dry. Mesa is better than Marshall in that regard.

The Ecstasy is fucking fabulous too, I think?, but I haven't gotten to know them outside of amp demo situations.

The XTC is actually the one i started to draw up layouts for.

Back a bit, my plan was a channel switcher: AC30 on one side, and either an XTC or something nasty like the Krank Rev on the other. Kt88 output for 60-ish watts.

I have no idea how that would have sounded on the 'clean' side.

Ecstasy 101B Blue or Red is really lovely. Wonderful tones from that thing. Even at low levels, it... is what it is, has obvious character. You might, given your tastes, want something nastier on the dirt side? And I can't speak for the KT88 bits in the power section. My layman's assumption being those would be too clean on the AC30 side, and perhaps on the Marshally side as well as Marshall flavors (the Bogners less than most) seem to want the output hurting a little.

If I had an AC30 cleanish/Ecstasy gainy channel into 50W that wasn't a total mankiller like an old Marshall I'd be quite happy given the right cabinet.

Would it be bad karma to switch something in to dirty up the PI a little for the clean channel? Perhaps disconnecting the NFB loop would work?

Yeah, i had a pretty ridiculous switching scheme devised, basically to attempt to run it as an AC30 on the AC30 channel, and as an XTC on the dirt channel. I actually am about 95% sure that the way i had it drawn, is mostly bad practices and ideas.

Hence, i left it at a fairly unfinished state of design. :red:

I would love to see some details on how a company like MI Audio did their Revelation amp. After i ditched my plans, they announced that, and i was like  "i wonder how they are going to do what they say they are doing."

Post subject:  Re: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

I have no idea if it would work in practice, but it is a damn cool idea. I don't suppose there's a way, seeing as the PI's part of the power section, to have two separate phase inverters?

I suggest a pair of Blues and a pair of Greenbacks in a 4x12.
