Both my Cannabis Rex for a EVM12l and a v30?

more importantly, what does a EVM-12L sound like?

EVEN MOAR importantly, would it go well with my hot cat clone?

Is the trade for BOTH of the speakers? Or for one or the other?

The EVM12L is a loud and heavy SOB. The frequency range is a little different than other guitar speakers. Some love it, some hate it. I would expect it to be a LOT brighter than the Cannabis Rex, and i would expect that the Cannabis Rex would have a generally smoother/softer sound to it. The EVM has a HUGE powerhandling, so the cone is going to be pretty stiff at lower volumes, which will make the speaker seem even brighter still. If you crank a lot of wattage though them they will fill out more though, and they are a little bit flat sounding, EQ-wise. Flat meaning that they don't accent the mids or the highs or the bass too much more than anything else. Compared to something with a big ass midspike like a V30, this might actually make the EVM sound like it has scooped mids though.

The V30 could sound quite good with the Hotcat. I might be inclined to mix it with something like a G12H30 though. For a single speaker setup though, it could work out nicely. A single G12H30 might be nice too(though a little low power handling) but it might be a bit too mushy for the high gain side of the Hotcat, all by itself.

Yeah the EVM doesn't sound particularly interesting... The trade had to be for both as my speakers are 16ohms and his are 8. I think I'll just stick with my original plan: greenbacks, v30s, v30+g12h, v30+g12-65 and their respective counterparts from other companies.

I just need to sell my amp first to get things moving :dastardly:

I have a Hellatone 30 (G12H30 IIRC) which sounds pretty good with the Orange TT, but definitely craves volume. I might talk to my brother about switching out the TT with something else. He got it when small bedroom tube amps were first hitting the market, but the TT is NOT a bedroom amp. The 7 watt setting just adds breakup, it is still loud as fuck.

I am think Vox TV4, but that 16 ohm out and I think the Hellatone 30 is 8 ohm but I need to check. Essentially, the TT and H30 combo is nice, but it is not made for bedroom jamming. I think he'd be happier with a much smaller map, that is ... if he ever asks for the amp cab and strat back ... :?

But then the orange cab won't match the TV4 head ... :red:

The H30 certainly isn't going to make your TT any quieter, either. :wall: Maybe a Greenie (not the WGS clonething, which is more efficient) or a 65?

Yeah, you can tell when the speaker hits it's stride.

The volume goes from nothing, to barely audible whisper, then you start to notice things on your wall shaking

I like the speaker. In fact, I like it a lot. But it just wants to be loud. It sounds awful at low volumes, and has too much oomph for bedroom playing. I also am not the biggest fan of TTs. They are swell amps and all, but sit in the awkward valley of being too loud for bedroom playing, and not having enough headroom for jammins. If you don't give a shit about cleans it will make a pretty sweet jammin rig, but that just won't work for me.

The H30 is a really efficient speaker. For bedroomtubemapjamming, I'd be really inclined toward something that breaks up early and isn't efficient at all. H30s and V30s (IMO, V30s are pretty shitty for clean tones, mostly, unless it's an amp with a glorious clean anyhow that's sorta designed around having a V30 in the box) are really, umm, not the answer here. Neither are Fanes or EVMs, but, realistically...

Or, I could go the other direction and convince him to let me sell both to afford an AC15.

Then just rent out a garage to jam in

Yeah, an AC15 isn't going to be all that quiet, really. But on the plus side it will be awesome.

That is why I am leaning toward a TV4.

It may not be the exact "Vox" toan I am searching for. But it will give me a rather unique and nice sounding Vox toan, that I can also record with.

OK I can tell you this on the AC4.... fucking nice. I love the 1/4 watt setting, true breakup at bedroom level. I also ran this fuck though my 4x12 with mixed Greenies and v30's...

This is not helping.

For how cheap the AV4TV heads go I might as well just keep the TT.

Looks like I might get a 16 ohm greenback for that cab afterall ...
