Yup, scored an 8 knob AOR 100. I doubt I'll get it before my next band practice which is a bit shit but that gives the chance to play it at home and mod it a little.

First off I will probably swap R2 and C1 for diode biasing. A 47u Ck is going to be sluggish as fuck!
The preamp voltage is pretty low which might make it a little fuzzy although with that number of stages I can see why I might try dropping R26 to 5K to up the voltages but I would probably have to nerf the plate load on one of the early stages and change the interstage attenuation, maybe swap R7 for a 47K and then center bias it.


Other options are resonance and depth power amp controls. This amp has a reputation for having a fuck load of bass so resonance might be a bit overkill without canning some bass in the preamp. Could try it with a resonance control and then maybe swap C22 for something under 10n. The resonance would be set to be pretty stiff if I need to track some thrash with it :lol: but it'd normally be pretty loose.

This should be with me by friday. Annoyingly I have rehearsal on friday and I probably wont get my hands on it until saturday. ah well it gives me time to fuck with it.

This thing seriously sounds great. Good amount of gain, sounds great boosted with a TS and its a ball shaker.
It still has one foot in the 70's which is ideal for a lot of our stuff.

A side note, is that guitar leaning with the fretboard resting on the edge of the cab? If so, that's a no no. If it gets bumped, or honestly just by having it lean that way, it can get pits in the frets from the strings being pressed into them. We used to fix frets all the time for this in the shop.

I'm unsure right now. I dig the bulk of its tone. I'm gonna give it a few weeks so I can be objective but the initial mods I can think of are an anode bypass somewhere to tame some of the highs and a depth mod for more bass than is really called for.

I put a tung-sol RI in V1 and an LPS in the PI and that improved the tone a lot. Havent fucked with V2 and 3 as I was happy enough. It has marshall branded EL34s that need to go too. I have some 6ca7s to try in it and if theu suck I might try KT77s.

Yeah I dont leave it balanced like that for long. I know its naughty :poop:

You'd be surprised how many guys with super fancy guitars do that. There is a vintage collector in town, I went to school/played in a band with his kid, and he did that with a 60's Gretsch White Falcon :freak:
