Lulz, I have a Dual Rec for a bit.
I'm borrowing it from a friend; 's got NOS RCAs and GEs in the pre, IIRC, and I forget what's in the power sexxxion; I think 2x JJ KT77s. Uhhhm, it sounds noice as such an apparatus can sound. There are now tracks for the Garda record where I'm playing a couple Les Pauls through variously the Dual, Herbie and Stephanie-turned-up-all-the-way. (Stephanie being the AC30, so named because I found a "HELLO! MY NAME IS Stephanie" sticker at a bus stop which was summarily applied to said ampliphier. I am not normally one for naming gear, but that is her name now.) GANE, of a sort and quantity I've eschewed for a few years now. It's fun, and my inner Tony Iommi misses it a bit. I got some tracks I did tonight, 'll probably do some more in the next few days and return the thing to its owner. It's a beautiful sounding 3-channel with a blacked-out faceplate and is, I think, the best sounding Rec I've heard in person. The other best-sounding Rec I've heard in person was a Rectoverb I almost bought the night I got a Mark IV A for $550. Incidentally, said was purchased by the owner of the Rec I am currently borrowing, bastid. I suppose I can't hate on him too much for said gears considering we're longtime collaborators and all...

Hit or miss maps IMO... Glad it's a good one

Yeah, the European prices on them are beyond stupid. Like, they're okay; well-built and versatile, but they are not worth what they ask on the other side of the pond. Buy one on American Ebay and declare it as a box of sheetrock or something after it makes the trip. Oh, definitely hit-or-miss, largely because no one has the sense to dial the things in right with the wonky controls. They need a thorough working-over by someone who knows what they're doing. Underneath their tough exterior, they are petulant and fussy and need to be shown their place . I've been blasting it through a Mills with old Celestion G1280s. Does what I want it to do, which is phat chuggz.

I've tried a few and some could sound totally awesome... Others though, always sounded not so great or just fucking unusable, no matter what setting.

Re: Lulz, I have a Dual Rec for a bit.
The only one i spent a lot of time with was already dialed in for a tight middsy sound. All i touched on that amp was the master volume. Thing sounded badass, especially compared to the Crate GX130C that i had been using before the recto owner (who was in the other band we were touring alongside) blew it up. [He *thought* he broke his amp right at the start of their set, borrowed mine, then DID destroy mine almost right away(prolly impedance mismatch, i was not tech savvy in 1997ish and never noted what he had it hooked up as). Turned out his own amp wasn't broken after all, so i wound up using it for the rest of the shows we played.] But for those shows, i really enjoyed that map, even though i remained and remain pissed at its owner for blowing up my Crate, and then not offering any restitution (or even an apology) whatsoever. It was a good sounding Mesa though. I kind of wish i had paid more attention to how he had it set. I literally just plugged in and had at it, never even looking at the controls other than the master.

I've got a pretty gnarly sounding pre-500 2 channel sitting on top of the pile of heads I'm borrowing from my neighbor. I actually like it quite a bit... pretty chunky sounding.
My Stereo Chorus will do the same sound in an SS kind of way though... no need to purchase it.

A text I received this morning implies his keeping the JVM (already sold his ENGL, which I liked, gotta say) and potentially offloading the Rec. Now, I would consider buying this. Gonna record with it tonight, with Fenders, King's X/Soundgarden-style.

I'd love to try a Recto... but while its not as expensive as zoso has it... Mesa anything is still quite expensive over here... Hurry up with those clipz!
