Post DE FINUL CYOUNTDOOOOOOOOWWWNNN!!!
Zach has my amp.

Zach has my faceplate.

Zach has mah muneez.

ZACH IS WORKING ON MY GODDAMN AMP.

Finally.

And I managed to scrape together a little recording rig, soooo yous guys can haz clips (with snaxie's old OM2 and mah 990). I will also record my handy dandy LPB-clone that I built :D. And maybe, just maybe, if I can get the thing working in time, yous can haz clip of my BMP-clone. But, that pedal is pwning me.

AND CLIPZ OF TEH CF-7 TOAAAAN LOKKK.

Damn, when that amp comes in shit is going to be ON.

And yes, after a year of anticipation this thread is a bit of :deadhorse:. I am just so goddamned excited to finally have this all finished.

IGNOERITE?

Also, I got the BMP all put together, went to fire it up and the LED came on but no signal made it through. I am pretty damn sure all of the right components are in the right places on the board, and that my wiring from the board to the pots is all good. I fucked up on the wiring for the switch and maybe one of the inputs. I thought I fixed them but now I am starting to doubt it. I might buy a new switch and a couple of new inputs and wire them in to see if that fixes it. Other than that, I am fucking stumped.

At least the LPB clone is working. It didn't at first, but I fixed it (loose solder). It sounds fucking AWESOME.

Simply put: '71 Fender SF Bassman -> 2-Channel (Clean + Crunch) Cerberus.

However it will not be an exact Cerberus. He is going to experiment using the existing components/values and the Cerberus' values to see how it sounds. It may end up a "Vintage-Modified" Cerberus, but if he can't get it to sound good using original components/values he will change them to Cerberus specs.

If you want, post some photoshots of the busted muffbuild, and mayhap its ailment can be discerned. Just get as close and detailed as possible, ideally with like a proper digicamera and not some hobo phoneamera shit.

I have some super-hobo phoneshots that suck so many balls that they are not worth posting. I snagged some batteries for the digi-cam and will take some pics tonight. I don't have a cable for the camera though ... might have to borrow one from the Ex  .

Quick question, how easy is it to fuck up a PCB board with a soldering iron? And, if you solder components onto the board and some of the solder ends up running through to the other side of the board, is that ok? If not, I may have just diagnosed some problems ....

It is relatively easy to fuck up a PCB, but if you do it, it is usually pretty obvious, as the thin metal traces will physically pop off the board.

If a very small amount of solder makes its way to the other side of the board through the hole, it is not so big a deal. If enough goes through that it shorts out something else on the other side, obviously, it is a bigger deal.

Hmmm, I may have shorted one resistor, R2 actually. It is a pretty healthy gob that made it through. It doesn't seem like it did any sort of visible damage, but I will get a close-up of it.

I don't think I fucked the PCB though. I got the iron a bit to close to it once and it turned a bit ... whitish ... but I don't think it was right on a trace and no traces popped.

I'll pull the bastard apart and get you close-ups.

What is the missing R9 all about?

Also, i would resolder that whole switch. None of those connections look too great. You should spend a little more time on the balance between leaving too much and too little insulation on the wires. You don't want half an inch of bare wire(like the blue and green wires on the switch) there, but you also don't want to see the insulation being plugged into the solder blob, as you have in a couple spots here.

Now, that said, your problem may be simpler.

One, it is hard to tell, but is that DC jack making any contact whatsoever with the back of that middle pot?

Two, when the jacks are installed, and the plugs to the amp and guitar are inserted, do any parts of the jack make contact with the backs of the pots or anything else?

Three, i forget if you said, do you have bypass when the pedal is off?

Traingle specs? http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_bmp_tri_lo.pdf No R9 :idk:

Yeah, I personally suspect the switch may be my problem. I fucked that thing up SO many times, I really don't even understand how I did it. Well, I mean I know I did it by sucking, but I mean jesus h. christ

It is a snug fit but I had them positioned to not be touching.

Two, when the jacks are installed, and the plugs to the amp and guitar are inserted, do any parts of the jack make contact with the backs of the pots or anything else?

I suspected this, and tested the pedal with the inputs out of the enclosure, still no audio when the pedal is engaged

Three, i forget if you said, do you have bypass when the pedal is off?

I am fairly certain but not entirely sure. I know there was a wire labeled "bypass" that I soldered onto the switch (the small black one looped by the longer purple/led switch wire.

Bypass is easy to check, if you click the pedal "off" and you hear your clean guitar through the pedal, then you have bypass.

If you DON'T have bypass, then it becomes much more likely that you have either: a bad switch, bad switch or jack wiring, or a shorting jack tip, sort of problem.

How did you ensure that the jacks did not touch the pedal enclosure when you tested it with them out like that? If the tip of the plug or the jack makes contact with pretty much anything, it will short your signal to ground and give you nada.

Then yes it is bypassed as I thought.

As far as the input jacks, I tested the pedal a couple of different ways but I am going to go back and try again tonight. I think I might rig up the jacks with some clips so the plugs are floating in the air when I test them.

If I can't get signal after that, I might just redo the switches and jack entirely. As you noticed I did a terrible job wiring them up anyways . Even with the lack of signal coming through with the pedal engaged, I do still get a hum. and each of the pots are able to tweak/control that hum, so I am assuming that my wiring for the pots should be ok.

But to be perfectly honest, the way GGG drills the enclosures for the BMP is kinda silly. It was fine with the boost because the pot and jacks were separated, but on this one with the jacks at the top almost all of my components are on top of each other. Essentially, every pot has something else sitting right above it. If I had myself a nifty drill I would just drill a couple of new holes on the sides. Alas, for now I will just make it work.

You already know it is coming.

I have a Vox AD50VT and a Vox AD30VT that I have been using for stereo fuckery with my whammy and cf-7. I have them miced seperately so it is kinda fun to pan each mic for my headphones. I may record some shit with that setup tonight for you, just for shits and giggles. But it won't be Strings. :cop:

ALSO STRINGS MAY GET RECOMPOSED TO BE PART OF MY ALBUM. It involves a cyborg-marionette.
