So I use my 6100LM for the GnR band, 3 channels and about as nice a clean channel as Marshall makes.

Just has been seeming too fizzy. Thinking I either have to crank the shit out of it, and use an attenuator or what I've been doing to tame the fizz is use my new Catalinbread DLS which really does drive it without fizz. (I also hit the Timmy after the DLS) It's just a tap dance from clean to dirty....

anyone have thoughts?

What speakarz?

The only real 'solution' i know of for marshalls of that ilk is crankedness. :red:

Personally, i don't have much love of attenuators, but one thing they can do, is cut the high end out of something. :idk:

Myself, i would probably be inclined to go with the simplest working solution, which might be pedals. I have just been a lot less picky and a lot less patient lately.

I have 2 greenback and 2 vintage 30's. I tried 2 at a time, same thing. It's just premap fizz, and I eq very bassy, not getting any muddiness. For now I will just do the pedals. I will need to do a bypass looper at some point. As I remember these marshalls kinda come into their own after about 6 on the powermap side.....

also, I think I have gotten really spoiled with the Bogner. But the GnR thing is as much a visual thing, live they used Marshalls so that's what we are using (well slash is using a Marshall emblemed Soldano...)

I thought Izzy uses a Bassman anyway... :cop:

Wouldn't a loop pedal work? Put the Timmy and the DLS though the loop and Bam! One stomp dirty! :rawk:

$30-$40

I remember it being Mesa Marks? Funny, that.

The cure for Marshalls in my experience is volume. Which is unfortunate. JVM seems to be a different animal, but 6 on the master is pretty accurate. Needs the power section to start getting ornery to really get "that sound". And I always EQed 'em really dark, too; something about the way the treble was voiced. :idk:

As an aside, as much as I don't like 75s (commonly paired with Marshalls, though you are not using those) I always felt they smoothed out when pushed. (I do like them with 5150s, but that might be the scoop thing hitting in the right place.)

I too believe it was Mesa's. But I've been wrong a few times....

Yeah the louder the 6100 was the better it sounded. I still did the tap dancing all night, Time for a loop. No GnR shows until Feb (We're playing with Dizzy Reed) so I will need to get one together. :cop:

Tried the old EQ in the loop trick?

Actually I brought a GE-7 with me to the gig and was all ready to do just that, but once I got the volume up it was so much better. :mwahaha:

ok so I've decided the 6100 is going.

The only time I've been happy with it recently has been when I use the green (Clean) channel and then hit it with an OD pedlol. (Been using the Maxon OD0808) So I'm going to actually get another Shiva in head form, one shiva is good, two must be better. I will change the name plate and gussy it up as a Marshall (for the GnR Shows). Local guy has a Shiva head for teh cheaps. so I put the 6100 up on TGP for sale. meanwhile I can use the JMP with OD if I sell the 6100 and don't have the Shiva yet.

oh, I thought about making a headshell for the Shiva Combo I have but I do some shows withing 24 hours of the other band so changing it out all the time might suck hard. Buying the headshell from Reinhold is about $350, I could make one, but changing it out all the time would not be good for the map

Buy an empty Marshall head cab, put it on top of an appropriate 4x12.

Put the Shiva combo behind the speaker cabinet, plug the combo into the speaker cabinet.

Play through the Shiva, keep an empty Marshall head on stage for appearances.

Channel the 80s.

If the Shiva combo was not so fucking heavy it would be an option.

Just how heavy is it?

Is that a 1x12 or a 2x cab?

1x12 ported 80lbs? Officially says 68 lbs

Yarr. I just czeched the Bogner site. The 2x12 is actually pretty much the same weight even.

No doubt that is a big part of why it sounds awesome though. Size and mass in the cab and magnets are pretty much required for "smaller" amps to sound right.

70 lbs is pretty brootz though.
