Has anyone heard much about them. I remember HCAF or HCEG was pumped to get their hands on it, but haven't been back there since it was released.

Peavey_Impact/Passy Lips bought the old one, it kind of sucks, from the sounds of it, but he said that a email discussion with Jet City indicated that a new iso cab was in the pipeline, that was going to be muy betterar. They actually told him they would send him one when it was ready.
As far as i know, that hasn't happened/the new one isn't out yet though?

Yar I can't find another one, and there is no news about such a product on their page.
I've heard the padding on the inside can be replaced/fucked with to fix the fuckedupedness of the mid resonance in the cab. Evidently foam padding or other such things can be added to straighten it out into a decent recording box.
I figure it is between this one or the Randall with a V30 for $50 more. The Randall is just substantially uglier, which I have to consider with the wife (seeing as it will be in our living room).

Evidently there is a Stealth version which looks like the exact same thing but with a USB out:

Wait, I think this IS the new one.
I think the old one was the Stealth model with a USB, and now they do not do the USB because Doug White said they couldn't "do it right."

Strictly in my humble opinion, unless the iso cab is really fucking large(like treated closet large) you will get infinitely better results from using a load box with a line out into a VST cab IR.
Different foam in it or not, there are simply basic physics problems with a 12" speaker being forced into such a small space.
Edit as in just a Direct Box that can handle an amp load, that I can then run to a mixer. Not that one specifically.

A load box can be as simple as a gigantic(more watts than the amp you use it with = massive) eight or sixteen ohm resistor, or as complex as an actual speaker coil(like the Weber Mass series).
Many attenuators can operate as load boxes, and often have line-outs as well.

I meant to add, that a DI box usually doesn't have the capacity to act as a load box. They usually need to be hooked up to a speaker, or a separate load box.
I also would probably avoid anything that says "cabinet simulation" on it, unless the sim can be bypassed, because i think you can get much better results using VSTs for the sim.

Yeah I didn't care about the cab simulation bit, I just searched for a direct box that can handle amp loads and that is what popped up. There are quite a bit of DI boxes being designed to handle 8 and 16 ohm loads for that exact purpose.

Re: Kind of thinking about one of these for the apartment
Show me what you are looking at that says it can handle a load. I am sure they exist, but it won't be likely to be a little guy like that Redbox.
As you can see here(in this insanely massive image, egads) :
That sucker is not meant to handle an amp without a separate speaker load attached in addition, either from a real speaker or from a load box.
Shit can get tricky with the terminology, so you have to be wary.
Re: Kind of thinking about one of these for the apartment
I could go with a MiniMASS with a Headphone tap for $130 pre-shipping, which isn't too shabby.
Then, could I not also run a speaker as well as a monitor, or mic it up to have live and direct recordings? Granted it would be attenuated, but hey it would be fun to mess with. Plus I could bring the Tron amp to the apartment and run it attenuated if I so pleased. Pretty much does the same job as an iso cab I supposed, though I still kind of want one.
Now, I didn't mean to say that I would use a Direct box without connecting it to a speaker, but I could use one to achieve the same effect as a load box/attenuator/power soak, as long as I was willing to attenuate the signal going into both speaker and input. Then I would have a pure albeit attenuated DI signal and if I wanted to I could mic the speaker as well.
I'd have to fuck around with levels and such to get everything sane though.

Re: Kind of thinking about one of these for the apartment
The problem with the DI box though, is that the speaker would be just as loud as it is now without any devices. The Speaker/Load out is generally 100% unattenuated, unless the DI box is also an attenuator.
For what you are looking to do, i think the Minimass is probably the ticket. And, as you said, you could actually use it a few different ways.

It is also worth noting that the headphone out on the thing is going to sound shitty. As it will be basically just an amp direct sound. It won't sound like a proper amp until you monitor it on your computer running through a cab sim.
The balanced line out might be a more useful option. Potentially offering less noise in a studio environment, for instance. Not totally necessary though.

But they is stupid expensive in this country and I imagine something with only switchable attenuating vs. something like the MiniMASS would be a lot less useful. Plus it's all crammed in a tiny box as opposed to the big red monster I could have sitting on my desk.

Oh yeah it only makes sense it would be just the amp sound, but I have to ghetto rig my setups a lot and when it comes to tracking an extra option for headphones doesn't hurt. Oftentimes I have to run earbuds from my PC under the monitor from my interface running through big can headphones. It usually forces me to play in less than comfortable positions with wires in my way. That said, ir couldn't be any better than what I have now anyway so fuck it.
Now the balanced TRS out, would that be in addition to the line out or would it replace it?

I would guess that the balanced out would replace the unbalanced. I don't know for sure though. It is probably a really simple modification they do. You could perhaps even leave it out and at some point down the line, get a stereo jack and possible even do it yourself. I don't know for sure how involved their balanced out mod is, but if they are only charging $15, there may not be too much to it at all.
That Palmer DI is interesting. I wonder how they get 200w attenuator handling in such a tiny box. It would seem that so much power into such a small surface area would produce a proper shitload of heat. Like, i would expect the box to get too hot to touch. I wonder what they are doing in there.

Or I have a GT Speker Emoulator which I love, has a load built right in and I can send out a line lever full of tube driven saturation like this, but they still go for a shit load of money http://www.ebay.com/itm/GT-ELECTRONICS- ... 2583wt_894
