I have heard about the CC1 having issues with reliability and I know the CC2 has better speakers, but is there any reason I should go for the C2 over the CC1. I'd honestly rather have the 1x12 speaker compliment of the CC1, but the C2 has greenbacks .... |

The main thing about the CCs, in my opinion, is the shitty stock speakers. The other issue that i personally have with all real voxes, is the lifespan of EL84s. That will be the same regardless of CC, C1, Handwired, or whatever, though. Anyhow, lots of folks disagree with me, but i think the CCs are swell amps. The reverb is SS, but it actually sounds fine to me, as SS reverbs in tube amps tend to, to me in general. It is a different thing than like a super reverb verb sound, but then so is a tube verb Vox anyhow. I really wasn't a fan of the Wharfdales though. If i wound up with a CC, i would have to factor in swapping those things out. |

The reliability issue with the CCs was, IIRC, 'cause of the shitty Sovtek rectifier tube. Replace immediately with a real GZ34- IIRC the Sovteks are a Russian tube that's vaguely similar-but-not-quite, and they don't take what the AC-series dishes out. |

Ah yes, i forgot.  Get a real recto tube ASAP. Ideally an NOS or good ANOS one. Even a Weber copper cap GZ34 version would be a better choice. The Sovteks are brutal, and they abuse the shit out of the whole amp.

Anything old stock that you can afford, IMO. There are newer production ones that work like GZ34s(unlike the Sovtek ones) but they don't LAST like GZ34s. A good old stock, US-made GZ34 will last pretty close to forever. Maybe a little bit less in a combo amp, but still way way longer than a modern production tube. |

Holyshit, the pricing on those fucking things looks to have gone a bit sideways. Usedta be ANOS ("almost" new old stock, i.e. used but like new readings on a tester) were available all day for like $20-30, and some of the NOS JAN ones at more like $50-60. Proper NOS desirables like Mullards, used to generally go at or near $100. Shit is fucked up. But that is what you get with a diminishing supply, i suppose.
