Post Laney GH series
Heya Todge, don't you own one of these? Kind of curious about them. Not because I'm looking to purchase one persay, but I think it'd be nice to know about an amp that bears my initials and is the current evolution of an amp I own.

I feel like all the demos of them I see online are shitty camera mic representations of them.

Are they much Marshally? Is it good? Is it bright? Seems bright when I look at people's vids. My Laney is rather dark.

Yeah they're pretty bright. I have a GH50L and run it through G12H30 speakers. I'm still a bit curious to try it out through V30s or a G12H30/V30 mix. Quite Marshally but with grindy low mids rather than the aggressive upper mids rawr. I find it best to run it with the treble off and use presence as my treble control. Reduces harshness quite a bit.

My clips always seem to be a bit hit and miss but this seems to sum up the toane quite well - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15027660/Sound ... ymules.mp3

From reading all about the 800 circuit I can guess where the lower mid emphasis came from...

Maybe someday I will own the amp that bears my initials!

They do a lovely metal toane  I'll try and record a clip later since I haven't done anything for ages and it'll be fun going for a tone I don't normally try. Any song requests? Nothing too techical :red:

The GH series is awesome. They're a whole lot of amp for not much money as they command almost nothing used. The VH100R is pretty awesome if you need more flexibility and the clean channel on that amp is amazing. Laneys tend to have very clean power amps so look elsewhere if you like the PI/PA adding a lot of flavour but this does mean you can run ungodly loud and the stuff in your fx loop chain wont sound like ass. It also means they sound pretty good at more pedestrian volumes although I tend to not explore that part of their spectrum :poop:

Those are the best EL34s currently in production, IMO. They sound badass.

Yep. I had Winged Cs in it from the last time, but they were about 4 years old and definitely sounding worse for wear  The new ones combined with existing JJ preamps seem to sound great.

That's good going. I think my amp must have been biased too hot when I first got em changed as the old ones were starting to make the amp sound pretty weak with no sustain or punch. Sounds very nice now :)
