Post Geoff's Laney gets a makeover <3
You heard it.

My Laney is older than me, and from the day I got it over ten years ago the head shell has been beat. And ugly. But most importantly, beat and not structurally sound.

So I found out about these guys who will do custom work... Something I've been looking for for a while...

http://www.trinityamps.com

I was sure everything would be standard sized like a Marshall or the clones you can buy of them these days but not quite, so I ended up driving out to their shop and bringing them the amp so they could tailor make it to its dimensions...

It was a very pleasant drive and they were nice people.

Okay okay, so pics so far.

Not baaad. I have some specific ideas for the tolex and stuff, we'll see how things develop.

Trinity is cool. Someone from there used to post a bunch at the marshall 18watt forums where i started my learnings on how to maplify. They have always done nice kits. I really want to do one of their Triwatts.

Their stuff looked very nice in person. Great build quality. Didn't hear any though.

It was a nice Sunday adventure as well. They are two hours out into the country from Toronto, and it was the height of fall.

Stoked for the result!

I was hoping we could get some creme chicken head knobs on there but alas, the shafts of certain pots are funny so it apparently won't work. I'll try and source some elsewhere though because I want dat.

More pics.

He hasn't done the front yet. I asked for something different on the front.

It's ready for a pick up. Though I still want to change the knobs.

You leik dat wood front? I wanted it to look as brown as it sounds, and he didn't have any deep brown tolex, so I was all like "stain dat wood", and it looks like it turned out great IMO.

That looks hot as shit. :huzzah:

White knobs would definitely be swell onnit.

What is weird about the knobs that regular ones wouldn't work?

Seems some are round shafts and some have a flattened notch, which was making installing a set of chickenheads difficult.

I think I could use some sort of material that dries hard to make them round, if I really want to.

I have seen d-shaft chickenheads before. If you are looking for basic white, it might at least be possible to run a mixed set, if i can remember where the fuck i saw them. I know i have seen black ones anyhow.

Getting a set screw knob to work on a d-shaft can kind of suck. If you are careful with it you could do like you say, using JB Weld or something to form the basic shape and then sanding it round once it dries. I have also used old broken d-shaft pots before, just cutting the d-shape off the dead pot with a hacksaw and using the half circle to make a full circle that the set screw can tighten down hard against. Not ideal, but it worked. :idk:

ACtually. It might work well to put the jb weld or whatever in the knob itself, maybe with some saran wrap to isolate the wet jb weld from the pot, and then just push it onto the pot shaft to make a type of ghetto d-shaft chicken head diy-like. After it set, you would just have to probably drill out a new hole for the setscrew and maybe tap it for the threads. A bit involved maybe.

Those are both good things to try, thanks Chris.

We'll see how she goes. This thread isn't over yet...
