Conveniently labeled if you wish to skip ahead to the different amps without the commentary. I was moderately surprised at how well the Mode Four and Valvestate 8100 stacked up and were able to produce a recognizably "Marshall" toan.

Pretty great to hear them all lined up like that, and though he says he didn't spend much time trying to make them sound exactly alike on purpose, they kind of all sound like one of maybe two different sounds.

Definitely a better sounding Valvestate than the one that used to be in my band's practice space. :red:

Always thought the valvestate stuff went too bright and thin for Marshall, but in general their solid-state kfferings have always been good, IMO.

Definitely weirdly similar, and probably could be closer if time was put in, I'm sure. One thing I will say though, is that I think the actual texture/graininess from amp to amp changes the most and is making certain ones sound better or worse to me. The superupfrontmids thing is def across the board, but some of them got some weird skronknasty that sounds almost like, nasty digital clipping or something.

I kinda wonder how much of a same-ify'ing factor the TS-clone is.

Tubescreamers tend to not affect the character of an amp to THIS extent. There will be some sort of inherent difference, EQ balance, low end tightness, midrange grittiness or smoothness, top end character, etc... that the TS can't cover up. Marshall's circuit designs tend to be very similar, even comparing SS to tube. They have a signature sound, and they know exactly how to get it.

This. They have a sonic identity to preserve, and that they do.
