Shit tonne of filter caps is the Matchless/Badcat way! Also, looks pretty fucking sweet, Knope! Here's to an uneventfully successful first run!

What sort of plate voltage does one of these mothers usually run at?

Sweet. Thats a pretty minimal clean channel The temptation to use that AC15/30 PT and the generic OT I have for something like this is pretty high. You managed to find a recto toob?

Ok initial overjoy is down... Its noise free, doesn't do any weird feedback thingy, loud, and overall just awesome... Clean sounds great and break up at 3 o'clock, OD channel sounds good but I haven't tweaked it into perfection yet... clipz when i repair my computer http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj26 ... Oh what OT primary did you use again? If that PX I have is from an AC15 then I only have a pitiful 91mA to play with if its anything like the AC15 hammond drop in. It does seem awfully large for such a shitty rating though. It's much larger than the PX I'm using for my buddies 20W amp and that runs about 160mA at about 360V after rectification off the top of my head. I'm possibly looking at strapping two 0-35,0-35 160VA toroidals together with a voltage doubler. That should get me about 400V no load and probably enough current to run EL34s/KT77s I'd need another tranny for the heaters though. The OT I have has 3.25 and 4 K taps but i can double up if necessary. Its not like I'm likely to ever use a 4 ohm tap. Edit: Quick tab packet calculation: Imax = (160/70)*0.5/(sqrt(2))*0.6 ~ 480mA Win. Hell I could run 6550s with that

My OT is 6.6k. Your plans sound like the ultimate bastard amp of all time

With those trannies 6550s would give 80w into 3k25 with 400 plate and 300 screen. I can see no reason to not do this.

Sorry I didn't read it right, kinda seemed extra complicated having 3 power transformers but its definitely doable. And by definitely doable I mean you should do it!!!!

Re: I love blurry cellphone pics! (Knope's Hot Cat Build Thr
The clean channel is nice but it has just a tad too much bass to my liking... probably my first mod It breaks up at 2-3 O'clock, and at that point I'm pretty sure its begging me for a treble booster I'm setting the brilliance knob to my liking on the clean channel. The gain channel thick yet articulate... MUCH thinker then my Carvin and quite a bit darker yet I can still play bigger chords and the notes don't get drowned out. Its a bit tough to dial in at first but I think I'm getting a hang of it. You need to balance the gain and level knobs, then the edge, bass and treble. Master knob makes it just sound better. Bass and treble seem become low/high pass filters past half way, so if I have both past 12 O'clock I start cutting the mids. Cleans up from thick od to crunch quite nicely. OR I dime the Master and use the level as volume and its also really awesome, but in a different kinda way. More of a Marshally type response I guess. Overall Im really happy with this build

Re: I love blurry cellphone pics! (Knope's Hot Cat Build Thr
I am thinking that the clean channel shouldn't be particularly dark/bassy? Are you A+ 100% sure that all of your cap values are right there? Might you have a 0.015uF cap off the V1 plate, instead of the 0.0015uF on the schematic? Or similarly a 0.1uF cap for the P.I. input rather than the 0.01uF on the schematic? It just seems to me that with that 180pf across the volume and the cap values indicated on the schematic, that channel should actually be a bit bright/sparkley, not too bassy? I still haven't played a real one yet, so perhaps one who has(Snaxo?) can confirm or deny this...?
