Also, just so you are aware, most of the sound on that particular song is actually a MicroKorg synth. It is basically a triangle wave with a little octave and some flanger on it.

THIS, is the sound of the phaser:

He also runs it weird. He runs the phaser really early in the chain, and then at the very end he has a Dynacomp compressor that makes it sound blown out like it does in the beginning there. Same deal with the first song on that record. You can here the shit ton of white noise that the compressor in that spot makes, it is the first thing you hear when the album starts: "HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS". It is noisy, but cool sounding.

well maybe i'll just pick up a small stone... i havew $100 what should i buy first? i also need an interface but the one i want is $300. so what save, or buy pedal or what? which pedal should i acquire first? i can get fuzz tones with my mark iii by turning up the bass, it's actually quite cool.

Jesus H. Christ kid, how the fuck do you dress yourself in the morning?

Make your own decision, like an adult.

i am the most indecisive person on the planet... i just wanted some second opinions. although you are correct i suppose i should make that decision myself... fuck me i have some problems :/

How are you going to mount that on your petalbored? Looks like it would take up a lot of space on one, unless you are using it as your peddleboarde. :plot2:

Eventide TImefactor. Just get one, now.

I have a Tascam MS16 reel-to-reel. $1000, but I am not actually selling it anyhow.

H3000 is nice and fairly inexpensive now. Bit of a lag for patch changes though. Their pedal units would be a better choice for live use, or an Eclipse. Or a :snax: FX, which is a fine effects processor in its own right; the modeling is just a bonus. The guitarist in my occasional heavyband I bass for has one. It is Victorinox.

isn'tthat a bit much for just a delay pedal? what would be the difference between getting that, and say a DL4?

You just have to work around the lag. As it should be, consarn it. I do so love those H3000D/S units.

I haven't owned a DL4, but I do have a Pod XT and used to gig with an Echo Pro rack unit as one of my (multiple) delays, along with having Pod Farm and spending time with Echo Farm on a couple different PTHD rigs. The Line 6 delays are nice, and they do some neat stuff. The Timefactor is more versatile in a live setting. It can run two instances of an effect at once- does so by default, basically- which gives you the ability to set up some neat multi=tap or reverb-ish effects on every patch. The filter sweep delay is awesome. Plus it can be coaxed into being a chorus, flanger, phaser/roto-vibe-ish thing and ring mod(!). It is emphatically not just a delay pedal. It's a great-sounding multi-effect unit masquerading as a mere delay.

This isn't saying the DL4 is bad- it's quite nice, but they do different things. IMO the Eventide is a more rugged unit and sounds "better" (not obviously having an impact on the tone save for the effect itself) to boot. Honestly, for the $300 you can score a used one for, it's a steal. It's the best multi-function delay pedal out there, period full stop done. It's up there with an Eventide rack unit or an AxeFX for quality. I've used both, repeatedly, in the recent past. Something like a Pigtronix Echolution, Fulltone TTE, an old Echoplex or AMS delay or what-have-you is a totally different animal. (And even more expensive, but it is that sound.)

The Line 6 stuff does a lot of cool character-ful delays. They're great and I use them. (The last Garda single has a synthy-sounding melody line behind my guitar in the intro that's actually an Echoplex model on Line 6 Echo Farm, not a keyboard.) The Eventide does its own thing. There's the difference.

Also, the TC Electronic stuff is really nice. For non-modeling digital stuff their modulation effects are spiffy. The chorus in particular. Their ducking delay kicks ass, too. Great on dirty rock or metal solos.

And for a plugin delay, Soundtoys Echoboy. It's not a delay, it's a weapon.

If you're wanting to do bizarre psychedelia, having at least one totally apeshit delay on hand is, I'd think, almost a must. You can use them to warp space-time.

...and if you were referring to the Tascam unit I mentioned, it is a large analog recorder that weighs about as much as a 4x12 cab but with no handles. 10 rack spaces of "Ow! My Fucking Back!" if you try to move it on your own. I suppose you could use it as a delay, but I've always gone for the more obvious route of recording albums, or bits of albums on it.

well i decided mostly what i am getting.

Sweetsound Mojo Vibe, unless i can't find a good deal used for one, MJM London Fuzz, Eventide TimeFactor, TC electronics hall of fame (or a verbzilla, can't decide), ehx small stone, seymour duncan shape shifter, all on a skb stagefive. besides those, i will want a wah, compressor, and boost/od but that is it essentially.

That's a nice rig. You have a Mesa Mark, correct? Really can't argue with that whole setup.

Re: the rest- Keeley Comp or MXR Dynacomp, some sort of Tubescreamer or variant, and... well, there's so many different flavors of wah that's your own problem. It really depends on what sort of sweep you like and how it interacts with your usual guitar and amp of choice. That's a very frequency-dependent effect (seeing as it's a filter and all) so that one's all you. Play as many as you can if you have a decent store in your area.

Yeah, I still play a Mark III and the guitar will be a Charvel Model 3A with DImarzio Evo and middle single coil.

Cool, i'll play some next time i'm at GC thanks for the help :unstrung:

Purely based on how you talk about buying all this shit, I have to assume at least upper-middle class.

and how often do i actually buy the shit i talk about buying? :poop:
having a pretty good rig does not make me upper class... all my shit cost prob around a grand or two. but i'm pretty much straight up middle class.
