That doesn't sound bad at all. My occasional metal collaborator has a couple Behringer boxes kicking around amongst his high-end stuff, and we have no issue with them save for the cheesy housing.

How easy is it as a clone build?

It is actually reasonably complex for a dirt box: it utilizes a (big part of the reason it sounds so unique) bandpass filter sort of array built of transistors that actually means that the parts count is kind of high, for a distortion. It is funny, i started to draw a layout up, but then ended up deciding that for as often as i would intend to use it, i might actually prefer to get a $30 cheepo version of it. :red:

Now, i am broke enough that i will probably just revisit it and see how big the layout would end up being. If i could fit it in an MXR or 125B sized box, i might do that. On the other hand, if a family member sends me a $30 gift code for Amazon for my birthday or something, i would probably just snag the behringer.

But yeah, the main issue with the plastibehringer pedlols is the boxes. And the switching/bypasses are usually shitty too. If i needed to use one of those pedals on stage, i would certainly go the bypass looper box route. I have their copy of the Verbzilla which is in one of those plastic boxes, and i do not like stepping on it at all, the whole thing flexes even with light pressure. I usually just use my hand.

Noted. I finally found where I put my soldering iron whilst doing some housework, and I have work to do on a pedal and my Strat (and retube the AC30 as well, though that's solder-free) so I figger'd I'd ask.

I remember one time when we chained the Behringer delay off an output of my Eventide into a small Crate combo with the other output running into a big Mesa rig. Oh yeah. Sounded trippy as all hell. And actually not at all bad.

 Y'know, I think he may actually have that pedal, the HM-2 clone, now that I think about it. If so I will ask to borrow it to see if I get on with it or not. In fact, I am going to send an e-mail right now.

Note that there are like three or four hot pink behringer distortions. The HM-2 clone is the "HM300".

They also have a HD300, UM300, SM400, FD300, and a WD300, (which are moastly clones of other boss and dod pedals). They are slightly different shades of purple/pink, but similar ballpark in color unless you see them next to each other.

I don't quite hear it 100% but it'd probably in the settings...

Nevertheless it is worth a shot! Them things are common and cheap.

Yarr, i don't think he set it to all max(the 'classic swedish' sound) in the vid? To me the quality of the distortion sounds right on though. :idk:

I think this VST (Ignite Amps The Anvil) sounds pretty HM-2 like. Maybe youse guise would like to check it out? I know I've had a ton of fun jamming through it in all it's fuckedupness.

I distantly recall trying their MT-2 clone and finding it didn't quite sound like one. Who knows though. It's still worth checking out this HM-2 knockoff.

Yarr, my next spare $30 is going to acquire me one of them methinks.

I have been into the concept of the sound they make lately(not for metul but rather other things), and i doubt i could build my own for much less than $50. (and at that cost, cutting many corners for cheapness such as: probably not having it in a box or possessing a footswitch. :red: )

This. A big, thick, grindy wall of violence. Though it can be smooth-ish, to my ears, which is interesting. I'd like to try it on bass, too.

I have been wanting to use it for purposes almost solely not for metal. Don't really play it much at all anymore, but I figured the RAPEWALL it creates would work well for different but equally oppressive tones.

And that shiz sounds great, Geoff.

No, but giant power chords don't work for just metal, ya know? I deal with some big guitar stuff and that kind of ridiculous tone would work with the vibe of some of the things I play. Big, happy sounding major power chord progressions sound epic as fuck through what is basically a basscentric fuzzbox created by Satan.

That would probably sound cool actually, but no, i would probably use it more like a grindy fuzz. I like how it has that mix of congested smoothfizz crossed with the chunkier-grained mid distortion. It is like two huge granite blocks crushing into and sliding against eachother. Multiple tons of rock violence leaving finely powdered stone dust in its wake.

As well as it could be put, I think.

EDIT - Though to be honest, I have always thought of it sounding like razor filled lava or something else similar myself.

Like, what Chris said. Not that I wouldn't run a bass or an analog synth through one, or plug it straight into the board fer recording porpoises because I hate people in that sort of way.

It has massive fuzz and you know my love of midrange. It's a big riff sound. I suspect quite suitable for big riffs.
