Re: MSD Silver Machine wah
not a wah fan, but there are uses for everything in the right context. For 'zample, I have to hit an old CE-3 for the GnR cover thing, quite a bit actually. (Paradise City likes to over use chorus and delay) and I actually heard an old Pat Travers live thing this weekend that he used a chorus on his leads that sounded good, but you put a Gibson into a dimed JMP you are gunna get some funtastick toans.

Re: MSD Silver Machine wah
I cannot think of a singular application where I would want or need a wah.. It (can) be cool when other people use it but me.. nah, bro. I also have no use for this Sufjan Stevens character.

Re: MSD Silver Machine wah
I like wah. It can be a very expressive tool for lead playing. Not that cheesy 'HAY LOOK I'M JIMI HENDRIX' wucka wucka shit, but more subtle-like. To add a vocal quality to the lines.

Re: MSD Silver Machine wah
I think the last time I used a wah was here: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7088291 Intro, I'm actually tapping too, even doing the unison bends... not a context those things are usually deployed in. I do like it for traditional rock leads sometimes as I feel it can be a very expressive, vocal sort of thing thrown down properly. But yeah, this pedal I've wanted just as a weapon. I have the Digitech Synth Wah but I use that for the synth and hideous filters, not the cheesy auto-wah. There's one Garda song I haven't posted yet (though I want to if we ever have a good recording) where Mr. Chris is totally doing the cheesy funk-wah thing but it's intentional. It's a bizarre mix of P-Funk, Dr. Dre, goth rock and something that sounds like it came out of an Alfred Hitchcock film soundtrack.

Re: MSD Silver Machine wah
This surprises me, as he uses a lot of stuff (banjos, vocal harmonies, etc ....) that you are into.

Re: MSD Silver Machine wah
I have had The Age of Adz or whatever is played around me a little and it just doesn't seem to mesh well with my brain. I like the textures he uses and whatnot but maybe it's the way he arranges things that I don't like? The melodies and movement of the tracks just didn't do a lot for me. Admittedly there were some cool moments that made my ears perk up but nothing that made me want to listen to more in my spare time.

Re: MSD Silver Machine wah
Every time i listen to Sufjan, i just am overcome with the desire to punch him in the face. It is one of the stranger reactions i have had to a person's music. In theory, he is doing a lot of things i should be able to get behind. In practice, i fucking despise everything he has done. This post made me feel like Renoir1.

Re: MSD Silver Machine wah
I think the thread was already derailed once I started poasting about other gear.

Re: MSD Silver Machine wah
To re-jack my own thread, the Yamaha console I found turned out to be the monitor board, not the recording board with the same model number. Give shit a cool name instead of just numbering it by channels and busses so we know WTF it is, guys. I did find a local dude selling a Valley People Dyna-Mite on the 'bay and I asked him if he'd sell it outright locally. I've fallen madly in love with the Softube version and want a real one.

Re: HNPD!: MSD Silver Machine wah
w00t! My wah pedal showed up today. It is about the size of a Morely, maybe a bit taller, and made of, like, 1/8" chrome-plated steel. You could beat someone to death with this. I'mma go test it in a bit as none of my guitar gear is at home save for my acoustic and a slide.

Re: HNPD!: MSD Silver Machine wah
Yes, wah clips must come.
And regarding Sufjan Stevens: I'm with Chris 100% on this one. His voice makes me want to destroy things/him.

Re: HNPD!: MSD Silver Machine wah
They shall. Now, this is a pretty extreme wah. Mr. Hamster's wah is no slouch re: its ability to mangle sounds, and this will get there dialed in- yeah, a wah you have to dial in- right. And of course I've spent some time playing really fast pentatonic licks through it as a goof set on normal-ish wide-sweep settings... 'cause that's about where it starts. I have it after my distortion and synth pedals, because otherwise the gain staging is jacked up going into a loud slightly overdriven amp. It does what I want- pretty extreme sweeps and filtering. The top end on this is a bit nuts (this would be the "Earth" knob). Like, rip your ears off. Not a subtle pedal. I mean, the starting point is Kirk Hamster's wah texture or thereabouts, y'know? Think controllable Mu-Tron here, or worse. With an auto on-off sensor. Then kick the footswitch for extreme filter insanity. It starts off on the aggressive side of conventional and gets nasty from there. A good wah for the sort of player you wouldn't expect to have a wah on their board. It goes from assertive to downright belligerent. The lack of an annoying toe switch is a plus. Step on pedal, cause violence. Step off pedal, go back to where you were. I wanted this thing for a reason and I think I was proven right. (Not yet having had the chance to use it with the band.) More suited to noisemaking types than classic rockers. I suppose I should make some clips.
